The subject of my creation is a sun made out of cut pieces of paper. I wanted to create something that showed my motivation, and I felt like the sun showed that. I cut out different sized triangles, then I hot glued the triangles to a large circle, and folded the triangles upwards. To make the center I rolled a piece of paper. I chose to create this because I feel like the sun shows my motivation from the first semester. My work shows shape by using triangles to make the sun. I also used rhythm by repeating shape such as the triangles.
Throughout my project I showed formal balance by balancing out the sides and making the outer triangles larger than the inner ones. I wanted to make everything to create a circle, so everything would be the same throughout my work. My project evolved over the course of this project because at first I was creating a turtle to represent how slow the first semester went by. I didn't like the way the turtle was looking to I changed my idea to motivation, which made me think of a sun.
The meaning behind my artwork was to show what the first semester was like and how it related to me. I thought in the first semester I was motivated on doing good on tests, grades and in sports. I thought the sun showed motivation because everyday I wake up with the sun and everyday I start the day off motivated to do good things. When we did our peer reflection, a lot of people saw growth. I like growth because I feel like I also showed growth in the first semester. I think my artwork could be stronger by not showing as much glue. In some spots you can see where the glue is, and it looks splotchy.
