Artist Inspired

The subject is a self- portrait with half my face shapes and color and the other half my normal face. I took this photo in the lightroom. First I gridded my artwork going square by square for my face. Then I used graphite and charcoal to draw half my face and the background. Then I used watercolor paint to draw shapes and other designs. I chose to create this because I was assigned to an artist from the baroque movement and got Rembrandt van Rijn, he created many self-portraits and used dark palettes. I had to also choose another artist from a different movement, so I chose Pablo picasso who is from the Cubism art movement. He used a lot of sharp angles so it looks like a shattered image. I mixed these two artists styles together and created a self-portrait. In my artwork I used color to compare the artists and art movements. I also use emphasis to show my face by toning down the background.

One composition rule and technique I showed in my artwork was framing to make my face the focal point in my artwork. My project evolved I changed the way I did the background to make it fit better with my face. I kept layering paint to make the background fit.

Rembrandt van Rijn made many self-portraits, and Pablo Picasso made many paintings with shapes and colors. So when I put their art together I thought of doing half my face Rembrandt, and the other half Pablo Picasso. This relates to my life because this artwork is of me. In class we are studying art history so I created something from two artists and their art movements. I think I could improve my artwork by making my painting blended better.
