Owl Eyes
Acrylic on canvas
4 1/2" x 4 1/2"
Owl's eyes can show their natural beauty and stand out through their eyes. I was trying to figure out how I could express the beauty of an owl, by showing its specific features. I choose eyes specifically because with many birds their eyes don't define them, but rather their feathers and specific colors do, however with owls, their eyes give away which species of bird it is.
The work was made by painting with acrylic on a square piece of canvas paper. I taped the border to prevent myself from painting out of the border. I started with an orange/yellow background and kept layering strokes of maint ontop to show layers of feathers and colors.
I choose to forget realism and show free, expressionistic strokes that express the bold eyes.
