Self - Portrait

The subject of my creation is my self-portrait. I took the picture in the lightroom where it added more values to the image. I made my work by using ink, graphite and charcoal. First I drew everything in graphite. Then I used charcoal going square by square starting in the top left corner in the background, on my face and on my sweatshirt. After I used ink on the darkest parts like on my sweatshirt and eyes. I choose to create this because it was an assignment for art, and I like the image I chose to draw. One element that is shown in my artwork is value, to compare the lights from darks. I also used contrast to show the different shades and textures. It makes my art more appealing and exciting.

One composition rule and technique I used in my artwork is rule of thirds because my head is tilted, making all my facial features tilted also. It's not perfectly centered with my the paper either. My project evolved because when we did a peer critique with our class people wrote that I should make my values match my original photo better so I made some of the values darker and lighter.

The meaning behind my artwork is that we were trying to focus on ourselves and also show different parts of ourselves that we never really thought about. My project relates to my life because its me and it looks like I am sad even though I am just being myself taking a photo. I think I could have made my art stronger by using charcoal on my nose instead of ink. It looks like I just put it there instead of blending it and making it proportional.
