The subject of my creation is an owl resting on a branch, surrounded by pine cones. The setting is in the woods on a branch, where the pinecones are acting as ground. I made this by using tin foil as a base for the sculpey clay that I added multiple layers of. I also used a old plaque that I painted white so it would contrast with the owl. To connect the base with the owl I added pine cones. I chose to create this because I wanted to use a variety of materials for my concentrations, so I chose to use sculpey. My concentration is owls and patterns, so I showed it in my artwork. I used texture on the owl to show the wings on the owls back and on the owls eyes. One principal I used was pattern on the branch to make it look like a tree branch.
One composition rule and technique that is showcased in my artwork was selective focus by making the owl the focal point of my project. I wanted to make the owl the most important thing in my artwork to show what my concentration really is. This project took a long time to make because I was working on another project while working on this project. It was hard to cover the whole owl without seeing the tin foil underneath, so I had to keep layering sculpey which took awhile. After I finished the owl I needed a base for it, so I quickly made the branch and at first I thought it would stand on its own, but I realized I needed a base. This was a setback because it took me awhile to figure out how I was going to make it stand.
The meaning behind my artwork is to show my concentration and I used sculpey to do that. I showed an owl and patterns in my artwork because that is the main idea of my concentration. This relates to my life because I enjoy owls I wanted to show them in the nature they live in. I think next time my artwork could be stronger by making more branches and maybe show more of the beautiful details on the owl.
