Whatchamadrawit

The subject of my creation is a penguin playing hockey with a donkey. For this project I used colored pencil, pencil and pen/ink. I first drew the penguin, donkey and hockey goal with pencil then I went back in with colored pencil and ink. I chose to create this because out of the two WhatchamaDRAWit cards I chose the one I hadn't done before. I used value to show the darker and lighter tones. I also showed contrast on the penguin by stippling with ink, adding more dots in darker areas and less dots in lighter areas.

One composition rule and technique I used was selective focus by making your eyes focus on the animals instead of the background. My project evolved throughout this project because I didn't exactly know how I was going to draw the donkey because I centered the penguin more to the middle when I should have made him closer to the edge. This caused me to keep redrawing the donkey to make it the right size. I also had to go over the penguin in pen and everything else in colored pencil.

The meaning behind my artwork is I chose a card that seemed fun but also challenging. I used my imagination to come up with how I want to draw a penguin playing hockey with a donkey. There were many ways I could have drawn this. This relates to my life because this is something you would never see so by imagging it I can think about what this might actually look like. My artwork could be stronger by making the penguin centered with the donkey, so closer to the side of the paper.
