Reflection

Reflection,

Last year I had a great experience in art, and absolutely loved Mrs. Medsker. This previous art experience encouraged me to take 2D. I looked forward going to art class, when my projects were done of course, although if they weren't done then I didn't look forward to going. I thought I already knew a lot about art, but in this class I learned even more that helped make my projects stronger. I notice i'm still growing into an artist and boosting my artistic talent every project. My favorite assignments we did in this class were the duck stamp project and the stars and stripes project. I feel like these projects were my strongest pieces of art that I made in this class. I liked these projects because I think it's easier to draw from an image. I think both these projects show what I am capable of as an artist and what projects I seem to enjoy and find easier than others.

I struggled most with macro leaf project and donate life project. It's hard for me to look at a small thing then enlarge it based off of what I see. last year in foundations this was also challenging like in our candy still life project. The little details that go into this drawing, like all the little designs, creases and colors that are in it make this hard to enlarge. I also struggled with donate life because it was hard to come up with an idea on what to do. I knew I wanted to incorporate a bag and the saying but I wasn't quite sure how to make it look like organs and tissues were coming out of the bag. I also had restarted this project many times, which made it not fun to do anymore, so I was rushing, which lead to a bad outcome.

In 2D I learned many things that helped me grow as an artist. It takes time and dedication to get the outcome you want, and with this in order to have a good outcome on my projects I have to give myself time and not rush to get things done by the deadline. Peer critiques are important in this class, they allow others to give to feedback on your art, so you can improve later on. With this I learned that even if my work isn't the best I want it to be yet, others may have another opinion. I can see what to improve on and what maybe I am doing well with, this benefits me and maybe others as well. If you look back at my time capsule drawings which I did at the beginning of this class, and now look at my newer pieces of artwork you notice a big improvement. This is seen through use of color, value, lines (etc). There was hardly any color in my time capsule drawings and now my use of color is what makes my pieces stronger. A lot of my time capsule drawing were light, like the face and the spoon, which had less dark lines to push the values. In my later pieces like my stars and stripes I added more value to the eyes and more lines to show the contrast, this made my piece stronger.

In the future I want to improve my sense of time management. This a big factor on how well I succeeded in this class, whether it's my artist statements or my projects. In this class I tend to do my artist statement later than the class they were due on and sometimes my projects were late. I want to work on this next semester when I take 3D. I need to plan out what I need to get done in each class to be able to finish on time. I also want to work on painting because I find it to be fun and relaxing. I notice that I tend to paint to much and ruin it, instead of leaving it the way it is.
