Independent Project

The subject of my creation is sydney. The setting is a landscape that has many different colors that looks like a rainbow or sunset. My work was made by first drawing all the 1" by 1" squares and centering it on the paper. Then I drew her face and used charcoal and and graphite to fill it in with. I chose to create this because I like drawing mixed media as well as painting so I did a little bit of both. I used Color in the background to make my artwork stand out more. One principal of design I used was contrast to show the different values in Sydney's face.

In my artwork I used sharp focus by making Sydney the main focal point. When you first look at it Sydney draws your attention right away. My project evolved overtime because at first I wasn't sure what I was going to do with the background so I decided to just mix colors and see what I came up with. I had to change the way I drew her mouth because I didn't like the way it looked.

The meaning behind my artwork is I drew Sydney because she is one of my good friends and seeing how she was drawing me I decided to draw her. The story is she wanted to make a funny face to show her silly humor. This relates to my life because it shows that i'm good friends with Sydney to draw her because I wouldn't feel comfortable drawing someone else. I think my artwork could be stronger by making the mouth more proportional to the reference image.
