Be Safe wear a Mask

"Be Safe Wear a Mask"

7"x9"

The subject of my creation is a photograph of my face, that I then manipulated by adding a mask and text to the facial expressions. My piece shows different values of colors, from lighter to darker shades. I wanted to respond to COVID19, seeing how many lives are affected by the virus, as our daily norms are no longer the same as they were before the virus. I stuck with my concentration, although that was part of my design. This relates to my life because my mask was made by my grandmother and it has been useful throughout the past weeks. The mask stands out, as it shows my thoughts on COVID 19 and how I am affected by the pandemic.

I used acrylic paint, on a print of myself on printing paper. I used smaller paint brushes on the mask because there were many small areas to cover. I decided to make the mask just like the one my grandmother made for us, with very similar colors. I decided to use acrylic paint rather than colored pencils because I wanted to show a variety of vibrant and bright colors, just like the ones on the mask.

I used value in my artwork to show the areas where there are darker and lighter tones. I also showed emphasis on the mask and words to represent my response to COVID19. I like how my painting uses many different colors on the mask. My next steps in this project would be to make the facial expressions more obvious and clean them up. I also might add more text under "be safe," saying "wear a mask."
