Freshmen Communications Course

Your grade is based on:

70% Homework assignments

30% Final presentation (automatic fail if not completed)

Course Objectives

- Students will work on and improve their reading skills.

- Students will develop their ability to speak effectively in front of an audience.

- Students will improve their ability to organize ideas through public speaking and in writing.

- Students will understand the importance of purpose and audience in rhetoric.

- Students will understand and appreciate the “Oral Presentation Rubric” in their student handbook.

Final Presentation Guidelines:

- The teacher must approve your topic.

- Your presentation must last between 5 and 7 minutes.

- Your presentation must include a power point presentation.

- Your presentation will be graded according to the oral presentation rubric in your planner.

Week four: Inspirational Speaking

Oral interpretation – presenting a poem or monologue

Famous speeches in history

Toasts and eulogies.

Week five:

Final presentations

Note: If any part of the text of any of your speeches is plagiarized, you will receive a zero for that presentation.
