9R Poetry Project

For this project, you will analyze a poem and teach it to the class using a power point.

Your power point:

Slide 1: Biography of the poet/ess. This should include basic biographical information as well as personal information that might shed light on the meaning of the poem. For instance, how are the details of the poets life reflected in the poem?

Slide 2: The full text of the poem, which one of you will read to the class. (Or if you find a video or recital of the poem online you are welcome to use that.) Your analysis of the poem should be done on this slide.Your analysis should break the poem down, according to LAST.

Slide 3: Themes of the poem. Remember to use textual evidence to support your points.

Slide 4: A contemporary song which has similar themes as the poem. Explain how the two works are similar.

Make sure that your presentation covers all of these questions.

60% of your grade will be based on your analysis of the poem.

40% of your grade will be on presentation and will be graded according to the Preston's oral presentation rubric.
