Assessment Poem

The end has come; Macbeth is near

But please take strength and do not fear.

For now we must think how to test

Your knowledge of the pilgrims’ quest.

We read of many pious people

On their way to Becket’s steeple.

Some were righteous; some less so

But all were human, ‘cept Pertelote.

And so I ask of you, dear friends,

Write a poem or rap that sends

The message to your English teacher

That you’ve understood each feature

Of the pilgrim you have crafted:

His dress, her speech, his thoughts, his actions

Is she righteous? Is he phony?

Are they plump, sanguine, or bony?

All details you must include

Their clothing style or types of food

That they enjoy. And be so kind

To let me know (between the lines)

If they were good or bad, whatever

Keep it brief and middling clever:)

Twenty-six lines is my demand

That come Monday you will hand

To me this poem that you have scribed

With all our lessons there imbibed.
