Senate Elections

I’ve written much about reforming the elections for the House of Representatives and also written about the presidential election. However, I’d like to mention the US Senate.

First: I prefer nonpartisan elections. I know that may mean two candidates from the same party. However, in highly partisan states, a choice between candidates from two parties is an illusion that place control of the election in the hands of the dominant state political party.

Second: I prefer an election that doesn’t make you pick between voting for the candidate you like and one of the idiots who have a chance to win. The simplest possibly is to allow people to vote for multiple candidates and elect the candidate with the most votes

Third: For the sake of better representing the whole population, each state should be required to elect one man and one woman. I know that electing only one woman senator is a sacrifice of my rights, but it’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make for my country

Fourth: Trump is right. It’s not fair that he is the only elected representative in DC who has to face term limits. Twelve years sounds about right, but I’d be willing to settle for eighteen. Naturally, this wouldn’t be retroactive and wouldn’t kick in for at least another twelve years. However, we’ve waited two centuries. We can wait a little longer

Fifth: America needs national election standards that protect the rights of all Americans. That, however, is a subject for another essay
