Seward's Dream
Annexing Canada, Iceland and Greenland
William H. Seward had a dream expanding American territory to include all lands north of the Canadian border. Seward's only acquisition towards that goal (Alaska) was ridiculed. Now the purchase of Alaska is considered a good deal. I think that the same thing would happen if we also acquired the other territories north of our border.
Prospects
When my reforms are completed, American government will be more palatable. Then we will be in a better position to offer a merger with Canada. We will have totally free trade with our most profitable trading partner. We will have totally open borders with our best friends. Canada will never again have to worry about arbitrary new tariffs. Our entertainment industry will be unified and work smoothly. We will share a common currency. Goods and services will flow freely. And best of all, Canada may actually like our new healthcare system
This could work
Canada’s provinces would be new states. Iceland’s 360k population is almost big enough to count as a state (Perhaps our treaty could limit Iceland to one senator). Greenland could be administered as a national park. Current residents could be grandfathered in
However, we could offer a signing bonus
How about we give each adult a free gun. Each person could pick one: AR-15, AK-47, Pump action shotgun, pair of 9mm pistols, big revolver, bolt action hunting rifle, 22LR minigun, flame thrower, anti drone net launcher, body armor (not a weapon, but to each their own), sword collection, quality lightsaber (replica only)
