5G network

The standard for wireless communication is here now and being installed. The Chinese are ahead and developing and selling solid technology. America is not far behind. US cities are starting to install 5G. Even my Rapid Ride bus claims it has 5G.

Your choice of country will determine the security of your phone network. Here in America, we have our own telecommunications industry. Our countries don't have that option. India faces the choice of trusting the US or trusting China. India doesn't trust either one. Given this choice, India chose the lowest bidder.

China, on the face of things, is our friends. We are at peace. The US and China trade extensively. China is the largest market for American big budget movies. However, China is also an expansionist Communist power with a thin skin and and a belief in their absolute rule. All of their expansionist actions are defended as either in self defense or the retaking of their rightful place in the world. China's CCP (Chinese Communist Party) government is dangerous.

Chinese companies are directed, by law, to serve the interests of the Chinese Communist Party. That means providing the CCP with whatever data they request. Huawei, the major Chinese manufacturer of 5G technology, insists that their technology is secure and that Huawei does not share private data with the CCP. I want to believe that. Unfortunately, as a matter of security, everyone has to assume the worst and treat Huawei manufactured equipment as assets of the CCP.

I know that I should say that India should buy their 5G technology from the US. That's not going to happen. India cannot afford our prices. Instead, I think we should think about India's security. India has the largest border with China. India's security and our security are one. India needs and deserves our support.

What the US should do is support the development of an open 5G standard. That way India, and other countries, can develop and manufacturer their own 5G technology. Then they would know that their phone system was secure. I know that we will lose sales as other countries build their own technology, but I think security of our allies is worth it
