Presidential election

(time for a clean slate)

It's amazing how many adult citizens are excluded from the American presidential election. Party primaries restrict anyone from minority parties from choosing the only viable candidate. Winner takes all state excludes anyone in your state that belongs to a minority party. Texas democrats, nope. California republicans, NADA.

We need an election that includes all adult citizens in the presidential election, including the just as important primary. This does not require giving up the electoral college, but it would require a constitutional amendment.

  1. An initial primary would thin out the candidates. The top candidates with one million or more voters (write in) would stay the election.

  2. We need an open primary so that everyone in every state will have a say in who is nominated

  3. We need to eliminate winner take all for the same reason

  4. The final election should not be "first through the post". People should not be required to throw away their vote. The simplest would be allow a voter to vote for multiple candidates. The candidate with the most yes votes would win
