Give Directly
So much of aid and charity is planned under the assumption that we know what's best for other people. News flash. We don't. Take it from someone who knows, Amazon. This retail giant has lost a lot of money paying for the returns of gifts that people didn't like. What Amazon finally did is to allow people to list individual that give them unwanted gifts. Items from that person would be automatically converted into gift certificates for the recipient's amazon account. Amazon would save time and resources (money) that they would not have to waste shipping a gift to and from someone who never wanted it to begin with.
We should apply this wisdom to American policy
Christmas: give a gift card
Welfare: give a national dividend to every citizen
Foreign aid: give a monthly payment to every person
Because no one gains from anyone giving a bad or stupid gift
