GARDEN PARTY 2017 – Thanks to all interested parishioners who attended the meeting and put their suggestions forward. A further meeting will be arranged to start the planning, date to be advised later.
MASS INTENTIONS – Mass intention requests are not too far in advance, for Mass Intention offerings, please use the envelopes at the back of church and please give a telephone number just in case the date requested is not available.

In a week or so time we will receive the Bishops decision with regard to our partnership proposal – let us pray that whatever is decided, we accept it with hope, love and charity. #GodBless+
StJohns Youth Council – CAFOD Fundraising:
StJohns YPC will this year be hoping to raise money for a Community Water Supply for a village that CAFOD support in Africa so they can have clean, safe water. Providing them with their own materials & training to build and maintain boreholes, pumps and water tanks.
We hope to raise £750 by the end of the year.
To kick start this fund raising effort, the youth council are asking for any
EMPTY & CLEAN BEER CANS.
(Ahem – empty is optionalJ) we need about 30-40 as part of this initiative to collect ‘money in a beer can’.

CAFOD – ‘No Place Like Home’: Exploring Palestinian realities after 50 years of occupation.

The Jerusalem Legal Aid Centre is a pioneering Palestinian human rights organisation. Since its inception over 37 years ago, it has provided pro-bono legal aid and services to some of the poorest and most marginalized people and communities in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
Join us to hear from JLAC’s Director Issam Aruri and EU Project Coordinator Shu’la Abdelhadi about the realities of life under occupation.
‘Ten years after the Stern Review’ - Thursday 2nd February - 5.30 pm followed by Commentary and Panel Discussion at 7:45pm - Curtis Auditorium, Herschel Building, Newcastle University.
Lord Nicholas Stern will reflect on what’s happened in the ten years since his landmark report on the economic impacts of climate change. This major event will be held at Newcastle University and will be followed by a panel discussion on Christian Responses to Climate Change including CAFOD’s very own Maria Elena Arana.

Galilee Talks - Saturday 4th February 2017 at 11 am at St. Mary's, Hexham
“If the Jesus of the Gospel, who befriended tax collectors and prostitutes, returned today, what message would we have for lap dancers and people on zero hours contracts – and their employers?”
The fourth in this year’s series of Galilee Talks is due to take place on Saturday 4th February and will be delivered by Max Winthrop, who, as well as being one of St. Mary’s parishioners, is an employment lawyer, being senior partner and head of the employment department at the Newcastle firm of Short Richardson and Forth LLP.
He is a member of the Employment Law Committee of the Law Society of England and Wales, and of the Executive Committee of the Industrial Law Society.
Free admission (Donations requested) Refreshments available from 10.30 am.
