Families@StJohns

Though St. John's does not directly have any schools attached to it so we strive to build and reach out to ALL, especially families and those of our younger parishioners.

Below are some of the initiatives we promote and support.

If you (young or not so young) have any ideas/comment/grudges :) then please contact us as we would love to hear from you :) #GodBless+

StJohns Youth Council ...

The Youth Council is an inclusive, informal gathering of our young people (6-16 years) to encourage their ideas and to allow them to put them into practice.

The Aim Is …

    • To inspire our young people

    • Give them a sense of pride

    • The confidence to the lead the way …

    • Helping our church to build & grow with

    • the support & encouragement from ALL

    • Building solid friendships

    • Providing a feel of belonging

The Young people of our parish are a great Blessing. The church needs their enthusiasm, joy, creativity, energy and unique gifts.

CAFOD ...

CAFOD is the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development. It is the official overseas aid agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales. In more than 40 countries across the world and through more than 500 projects, it brings hope, compassion and solidarity to poor communities, standing side by side with them to end poverty and injustice.

CAFOD helps people according to their need, regardless of their race, religion, gender or politics.

The charity draws inspiration from scripture, Catholic Social Teaching and the experiences and hopes of people who are poor.

All at StJohns – led by the YPC – are supporting CAFOD in their endeavours.

Year of Mercy (YoM) Planner for YOUR Family ...

The 'planner' is in Microsoft Word format but we can supplied in a different format if required along with 'some' customisation.

The planner encourages families to get involved in church life in a non-threatening or over committal way with the over riding goal of inclusion and acceptance

Simply click on the picture to go to our YoM page and from there you can download the planner & customise it

Your Allotment @StJohns ...

... Our major activity in outreaching to families is the creation of St. John’s allotment within the church grounds ...

We need your help to grow things either on the church allotment or on your window still. Any produce we manage to harvest will be used to make soup and jam etc. for our Harvest Festival event near the end of the Year of Mercy. We hope this activity will teach our young people the importance of growing food and sharing this food with those in need (corporal act of ‘feed the hungry’).
