PARISH COUNCIL MEETING – The Parish Council will meet today (Sunday 19th November 2017) in the Presbytery dining room following the 9.30am Mass.

The Minutes of the meeting held 28th October 2017 are displayed on the notice board.

CHRISTMAS SHOE BOXES – 39 Shoe boxes were donated by the parishioners of St. John's. Many thanks.

GARDENERS – The Gardening season is coming to a close with minor works only required over the winter season.

We are appealing for helpers for spring 2018 onwards.It does not have to be every week if you can't manage that. Please give your name to Frank Swindle 07779 425610 or Jimmy MacFarlane 01670 714792

We are pleased to report that we now have 3 female volunteers with 1 non-catholic gentleman, come on gents, they are showing you up. We could do with a few more helpers for next year.

COFFEE AFTERNOONS – The next two Coffee Afternoons will be on Thurs. 14th Dec. & Thurs. 11th Jan. 2018 at 1.30pm. These are open to ALL, not just parishioners, Please come along and invite a friend and/or your neighbour.

Sunday 26th November - Youth Sunday 9:30am Family Mass – FINAL CALL

There will be a REHEARSAL in the Hall today at 1pm for all children who wish to take part in the Mass – however small that part may be - Please say ‘Yes’ to being part of Your Youth Sunday.

“The theme is ‘YES’ and invites us to reflect on Mary’s ‘Yes’ to what God was calling her to do”

    1. Any child wishing to be part of the Mass (however small), please contact Sharon Hedley

    2. Also, It is intended that ALL parishes in the partnership will receive bookmarks with the theme of ‘Yes’ for parishioners to distribute and ‘pass on’

StJohns YPC Cake Sale – After Youth Sunday Mass (26th Nov)

StJohns YPC have been asked by the Partnership Youth Council if they could raise a little money for a Christmas Toy Appeal. Therefore, YPC will be having a cake sale after Mass next week (26th).

For those home bakers amongst you, please bring something small for YPC to sell.

All money raised will go to the Christmas Toy Appeal – More details about this very important and outreaching appeal will follow over the next few weeks. As always, many thanks for your support #GodBless+

Bring-A-Coat, Take-A-Coat

Another initiative coming from the Partnership Youth Council is the ‘Bring-A-Coat, Take-A-Coat’ which StJohns YPC endorse. If you have any old, warm coats for all ages, please bring them to church and put them in the Refugee Food Bank Box, which is in the porch. More details to follow.

Justice & Peace Refugee Food Back

Thank you for those who still support this. This has now become a partnership Youth Council initiate, so please keep bringing in items of food, especially toothpaste, shampoo etc. Your generosity is much appreciated.

Christmas party for all the family and open to all in our partnership and community.

    1. 7pm til 9pm – Children’s disco and entertainment – Family Fun Games

        1. 8pm Shhhhh - You Know Who Pays a Visit (HoHoHo :)

    2. 9pm til late – 60’s/70’s/80’s music (and of course Christmas music)

      1. Also @9pm buffet starts – Shared Table (so please bring something small)

      2. Children welcome to dance the night away until 11

Adult ticket £3, Children ticket £1. Total number restricted to 150.

CAFOD Coin-It-In Beer Cans – Please start to bring in any cans that you have filled up with pennies so we can do a final count of the money raised for CAFOD’s African Water Well Appeal that StJohns YPC have been collecting for over this year.

Prayer & Remembrance Tree - November is traditionally the month during which the Catholic Church remembers and prays for all our deceased relatives and friends. Remembering is a very important part of bereavement. Please feel free to hang a picture or write a name of a loved one on a ‘butterfly’ and hang it on the Remembrance Tree, which is at the back of church. The butterflies and pens are next to the tree and suggestion box.

Mary's, Hexham Torchlight Procession - Friday 8 December 2017 at 7.00pm there will be a procession in honour of Our Lady’s Immaculate Conception. Meet at 7pm at the bandstand near the Abbey, for Rosary, then process to St Mary’s RC Church, for Sermon by Fr Chris Warren and Benediction. Refreshments afterwards in the parish Hall. This is the same evening as the Partnership Family Christmas Party, but if anyone would like a lift to Hexham, please contact Kathleen Dawson on 0191 266 7775
