CAFOD – Connect2

Connect2 is an exciting way to create solidarity across the world. Connect2 allows us to hear directly from people in developing countries who are working hard, often against the odds, to improve their lives. As well as getting to know local people, we will also discover how our partners in each country are making a difference.

Our Young people choose the country Brazil to connect with. When you think of Brazil, what comes to mind? Beautiful beaches? Famous footballers? But what about the daily lives of unsung heroes in Saõ Paulo, one of the world’s most dangerous cities? By connecting with Brazil we will meet people who are tackling human rights abuses and severe housing shortages which force many into shanty towns or onto the streets.

To begin our journey, we will receive stories and photographs from our chosen community. Over the next few years, we can look forward to regular updates from local people so we can share their hopes and dreams, as well as the struggles and challenges they face. In return, we can support the community through prayer, raising money and sending news from our parish through photographs, cards and messages of solidarity.

Works of Mercy – Bury the Dead

    1. Saturday 15th October 11am-2pm our Young people will meet in the church hall to make a poppy wreath to honour all who have suffered or died in war. This will be taken and placed at the Cenotaph on Sunday 13th November 2016.

      1. The prayer tree along with a book of remembrance will be placed at the back of church from 29th October in memory of family, friends and parishioners who have died.

      2. On Sunday 13th November prayers will be attached to helium balloons blessed and released by our young people after mass in the grounds of St Johns.

Our young people have been given a task of pooling their ideas together and designing a Garden of Remembrance for people to visit pray and find comfort. The garden will be situation on the piece of land outside the church hall next to Fr Harriot’s House.

Family Mass

The next family mass will take place on Sunday 20th November – Youth Sunday - Feast of Christ the King.

This brings to an end our Year of Mercy celebrations but the legacy, we hope, will continue in the youth of our community. Our young people will take play and active part in the liturgy with celebration of shared table after mass.

St. John’s Family Christmas party will be held at Seghill Comrades club on Sunday 19th December 2016 from 7.30pm – Disco and Shared Table – Tickets for event £8 (2 adults & 3 children)
