Curriculum

5th Grade Math

• I can compare and order decimals AND round numbers to a given place value. 

6th Accelerated Math

• I can multiply integers fluently by using models (chips and number lines) and by using standard algorithms. 

• I can divide integers fluently by using models (chips and number lines) and by using standard algorithms. 

• I can multiply and divide integers fluently by using models (chips and number lines) and by using standard algorithms. 

• I can add, subtract, multiply, and divide integers using real-world problems. 

ELAR

• I can create mental images to deepen my understanding of a variety of texts. I can synthesize information from texts to create a new understanding. I can make inferences and use evidence to support my thinking. I can compose literary texts such as personal narratives, fiction, and poetry using genre characteristics and craft.

Science 

• I can identify various science tools and research their purpose, history, and usefulness in the science lab.

• I can use a triple beam balance to identify the mass of an object.

• I can use beakers and graduated cylinders to identify the volume of an object.

Social Studies

• I can create a journey map of my life using a theme and include map tools to show important events from my past, present, and future.

• I can thoughtfully evaluate my classmates’ journey maps by checking for all required parts and rating how well they communicate their life story through organization, creativity, and writing.

"They Started It!!" Raising Gifted and Neurotypical Siblings Together

One of the most challenging things about raising gifted children (as if it’s not hard enough), is when that child has a neurotypical peer.  Sibling relationships can be one of the more protective factors for children developing appropriately socially, emotionally, and physically, so it is a variable that needs to be treated with care and intention.  This presentation will focus on how to manage the relationships between gifted and non-gifted siblings with emphasis on communication, navigating asynchronous development across peers, and setting internal expectations.  This presentation will offer concrete, usable strategies for parents to use to help their children feel safe, seen, and supported.
