5th Grade Community Service Initiative

We have a goal this year for 5th-grade students to complete 8 hours of community service outside of the school day by the end of the year (4 hours per semester). Students who achieve 4 hours by December 5, 2025, and an additional 4 hours by May 1, 2026, will receive a party to celebrate their achievements. When your child completes community service, please be sure they are logging their time in the Google Form linked below. We have hung a tracker poster (pictured here to the left) we plan to hang in the 5th-grade hallway to track the hours completed as the school year progresses. We cannot wait to see the tracker fill up! This is an optional opportunity for students, but we hope to see several participate!

Also, if you snap photos of your child during their community service, please send them our way! We would love to see the work they are doing.

Sky Ranch Chaperone Notification

On Friday next week (September 12th), all chaperones will be notified in an email of their application status. We hope to get it to you by 5:00 p.m. We want to thank everyone who applied and appreciate your willingness to volunteer your time to help us out. If, for some reason, you don't receive an email to notify you of your chaperone status by 5:00 p.m., please reach out to Miss Hayes (christina.hayes@gcisd.net).

Sky Ranch - Field Trip Permission, Participant Agreement, Dietary Restrictions - DUE SOON!

GCISD requires three forms for your child to attend Sky Ranch. Please note: the forms are due no later than Monday, September 15th. Additionally, Sky Ranch requires a participant agreement to be completed for every student attending camp; please submit these no later than Friday, September 19th. If your child has specific dietary needs, the dietary form (for Sky Ranch) must also be filled out by September 19th. We have forms linked below for you:

5th Grade Math

I can do my best on the Unit 2 Decimals and Place Value Test to show how much I’ve grown this unit.
I can multiply by one-digit, two-digit, and three-digit factors using several different strategies.

6th Accelerated Math

I can review what I have learned during the integers unit in order to prepare for tomorrow's integer test.
I can do my best on the Unit 1 Integers Test to show how much I’ve grown this unit.
I can use a visual representation to describe the relationship between natural numbers, whole numbers, integers, and rational numbers.
I can simplify and convert between mixed and improper fractions.

ELAR

I can analyze plot elements, including rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution.
I can describe how the author's use of figurative language such as simile and metaphor, and sound devices, achieves specific purposes.
I can identify different parts of speech in various texts (verbs, including irregular, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, etc) and use them consistently and correctly in my writing.

Science

I can analyze matter and identify its physical properties.
I can describe how density affects buoyancy.
I can use mass and volume to calculate density.

Social Studies

I can identify and locate the states and capitals of the Northeast region on a map.
I can find and describe the states, climate, landforms, bodies of water, and natural resources of a specific U.S. region.
I can explain how the geography and features of a region affect the way people live, work, and interact with others, and how other regions or countries see this region.
