Student: Corbin Sweatt
Mrs. MacMahon’s Mission: Star Student this week is Corbin Sweatt! She lives with her mom, dad, sister, Charlee and two pets Major and Taze. Corbin’s favorite colors are pink and purple, and she enjoys watching Fancy Nancy on Disney Junior. Some of her favorite things include playing soccer, eating popcorn shrimp and onion rings, and reading books about Elsa, the Snow Queen! When Corbin grows up she wants to be a marine biologist. Her friend, Gentry says, “she’s a nice friend because she shares.” We are lucky to celebrate Corbin in our kindergarten family who shines bright everyday!
WHAT A BUSY WEEK!
This week we stayed at the farm and learned some interesting facts about sheep. Did you know that sheep are really smart and can experience emotions and they can also recognize the faces of both humans and their flock-mates? We continued working on identifying and producing rhyming words, counting syllables, and listening for beginning sounds in words. We also practiced finding words that start with the same sound. These skills will be assessed on the upcoming report card. If your child has not yet mastered any of these skills, please continue practicing them at home. A little bit of extra practice goes a long way! In math, the students worked on composing numbers by showing different ways to make numbers up to 7, such as: 7 and 0, 6 and 1, 5 and 2, 4 and 3, 3 and 4, 2 and 5, 1 and 6 and 0 and 7. We are working on counting backwards from 20 to 1 and counting from 1 – 100. In social studies, we learned that there are good citizens and leaders that make up our country, such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King, Jr. We also learned what explorers do and that Christopher Columbus was an explorer who set out to learn about a new place. Following the Gator Way is something that good leaders always do!
SNACK
We had MANY students without a snack this week. Please remember to send your child to school with ONE healthy snack every day. Thank you!
READING BAGS
On Friday, some students brought home their reading bag with four books in it. The expectation is for them to read all four books every night to help them develop fluency. The students need to return their bag on Fridays so they can get new books. PLEASE be sure your child keeps the books in their backpacks when not being read, in case the teacher needs to change the books out on a different day. If your child did not bring home any books, they will be bringing them home by the beginning of November.
REPORT CARDS
Report cards will be posted in Skyward on Wednesday. These reports are designed to provide feedback to parents about progress toward specific grade level standards. Please be sure to work with your child at home on any standards that have not yet been mastered. Thank you!
