This week: We began Module 4: Heroic Feats. We read a fairy tale, explored text and graphic features, point of view, and theme. Our writing focus this unit will be narrative.
Next week: We will read narrative nonfiction and a myth/play. We will synthesize, discuss text structure, ask and answer questions, and explore elements of drama and as figurative language. We will continue writing narrative stories, including plot elements.
This week: We compared decimals using models, number lines and other strategies. Number lines are important to understand because this preparest them for positive and negative numbers in the future!
Next Week: We will talk about adding and subtracting decimals as well as how it relates to financial literacy.
This Week : We finished up our chapter about structures and functions of plants, learned about mediterranean cypress trees and how they can slow forest fires, and we began our next chapter - inherited and acquired traits of plants and animals.
Next Week : We will continue and finish our chapter on inherited and acquired traits, we will learn about plants response to severe weather and outside factors (branches broken, animals making homes in trees). Other examples include - plants with yellow flowers drop seeds that make plants with more yellow flowers. If my dad has green eyes it is likely that I do too.
(If you would like to follow along with our learning this chapter is pages 299-308 in McGraw-Hill)
This Week : We began our week ten newspaper about early Texas settlers and Spanish Missions. We learned about the difference between presidios, missions, pueblos, and ranchos. France and Spain's claims to Texas became stronger with more settlement, and they began to fight over the territory.
Next Week : We will begin our week eleven newspaper about the Mexican War of Independence from Spain. We will construct a timeline of events leading up to the revolution and discuss important figures (Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla and Moses Austin) and the Mexican Constitution of 1824.
