We are celebrating International Dot Day on Monday of this week. Dot Day is celebrated worldwide and originated from the book The Dot by Peter Reynolds. The book encourages students to think outside of the box as well as to persevere through struggle. We will be reading the book to students on Monday (as well as discussing the theme) and encourage students to wear clothing with dots to school if they would like.
Picture day is this Tuesday, September 16th. These are the pictures that are in the yearbook, so please send your child to school in clothes you would be okay with in the yearbook!
Ms. Bell and Ms. Herrera are still looking for puzzle donations that are appropriate for grades 2-4. We appreciate the puzzles that have been donated!! THANK YOU!
Language Arts: Generating Ideas and Self-Awareness Stations
I can generate ideas for my writing and use those ideas to develop drafts.
I can create a map of a special place to inspire ideas for writing.
I can use surveys to develop self-awareness about my skills as a reader and overall learner.
I can practice fluent reading with appropriate rate and expression.
Math: Place Value
I can show all of my place value knowledge on my place value assessment
I can show strategies for solving complex word problems and justify my thinking.
I can show what I already know about addition and subtraction.
Science: Matter and Materials
I can classify matter by observable physical properties, including texture, flexibility, and relative temperature, and identify whether a material is a solid or a liquid.
I can investigate how physical properties can be changed through processes such as cutting, folding, sanding, melting, or freezing.
I can demonstrate that small units such as building blocks can be combined or reassembled to form new objects for different purposes and explain the materials chosen based on their physical properties.
Social Studies: What Do Good Citizens Do?
I can explore careers that I want to learn more about.
TAGT Parent Webinar: 6:30 p.m. | September 23, 2025
One of the most challenging things about raising gifted children (as if it’s not hard enough), is when that child has a neurotypical peer. Sibling relationships can be one of the more protective factors for children developing appropriately socially, emotionally, and physically, so it is a variable that needs to be treated with care and intention. This presentation will focus on how to manage the relationships between gifted and non-gifted siblings with emphasis on communication, navigating asynchronous development across peers, and setting internal expectations. This presentation will offer concrete, usable strategies for parents to use to help their children feel safe, seen, and supported. Learn more and RSVP for the event by clicking on this link.
This article shares thoughtful insights on what a true growth mindset looks like today, especially with artificial intelligence becoming more common. It’s a great read for parents who want to support their child’s confidence, curiosity, and resilience as they learn and grow. Check it out to find ideas on how to encourage a positive attitude toward challenges and new technologies!
Ms. Bell's class has library on Wednesdays this year and Ms. Herrera's class has library on Tuesdays. 2nd graders can check out two books at a time, and should bring books back to check out new ones before library the following week. Thanks for your help in making sure books come back to school. Better yet, make a habit of storing the library books in your child's backpack so they are always there!
As a reminder, we have two snack times during the day. Please be sure to send nut-free (NO PEANUTS OR TREE NUTS) snacks. Please remember to put snacks in your child's backpack and not in their lunchbox. We send lunch boxes down to the cafeteria early in the day, so it's important that snacks are left in backpacks in the classroom. Thank you!
We would like to provide additional support at school if your family is experiencing difficulties at home.
If your child is coming to school after a difficult night, morning or weekend please email me with the words "Handle with Care." Nothing else will be said or asked. This will let me know that your child may need extra time, patience, or support during the day.
We have the most INCREDIBLE PTA here at Glenhope. Please check out their website to learn more!
