In Reading, we introduced informational texts and discussed text features and how they help us when reading. Many students have finished their final draft this week. Students will be sharing their personal narrative with the class this week.
In Math, we are still in our addition and subtraction unit. We have moved on to two digit plus or minus two digit numbers. We have also started learning about regrouping.
Our Science unit on objects and materials continues through early October. We will learn about classifying objects, sorting by characteristics, weight, systems and how things can be changed by heating and cooling. We are moving on to our next unit called Animals Grow and Change.
In Social Studies, our community unit is continuing by learning about local, state, and national government.
Reading/Language Arts: I can identify and use text features to understand what I read in a nonfiction story. I can retell events in order from stories I read. I can write narrative stories about my own life. I can edit my personal narrative writing. I can share my personal narrative with the class.
Math: I can solve two digit addition and subtraction problems with and without regrouping.
Science: I can identify the external structures of different animals and compare how those structures help different animals live, move, and meet basic needs for survival.
Social Studies: I can identify the rights and responsibilities of good citizenship.
Library day is Tuesday! Remember to bring your library books to school on Tuesday in order to check out new books.

Students have started to finish up their final drafts! They are excited to share with their classmates this week.
First grade got to release some butterflies! A parent in Mrs. Ulrich's class donated some monarch caterpillars to Mrs. Ulrich's class, so we have been able to see them in the chrysalises and then once they hatched. They enjoyed getting to see them fly away!
