There is no school for students... Enjoy the 3 day weekend!
Meet Mrs. MacMahon's student of the week. We are excited to celebrate Caleb as our Student of the Week! Caleb lives with his mom, dad, and two sisters, Kylee and Kelsey. At home, one of his favorite meals is sausage and macaroni. Caleb’s favorite color is red, and when he grows up, he dreams of becoming a Major League baseball player. He’s already on his way, playing for the Rangers right now! When he’s not on the field, Caleb enjoys watching ESPN and reading Pete the Cat: The Big Win. Caleb’s buddy Daniel describes him as nice because he always includes me when we play. We are so proud to spotlight Caleb this week!
Mrs. Stuckeman’s Student of the Week: Holley
Holley lives with her mom, dad, and sister. She loves steak, the color pink, and watching Dora. Her favorite book is The Berenstain Bears and the Ghost of the Forest. When she grows up, Holley wants to be a singer. She says she's special because she's kind and sweet. Her friend Millie says Holley is a good friend because she plays with her.
Meet Mrs. Williky's student of the week, Audrey. Audrey lives with her mom, dad, sister, and her dog named Oliver. Audrey likes to eat pizza and her favorite color is magenta. Audrey's favorite book is Following Featherbottom and she likes to watch “Gabby's Dollhouse” on t.v. When Audrey grows up, she wants to be an artist. Audrey says she is special because, “I am kind, helpful and joyful.” Her friend, Margot, says that Audrey is a good friend because she is smart and nice.
WHAT A BUSY WEEK!
We have one more week and our number sense unit will be complete. Your child should be able to build sets of up to 10 objects, put numbers in order and count - forwards and backwards from 20 to 1, compare numbers, using one more than, one less than and the same as (equal to) a given number. We will be assessing these skills next week, so you may want to practice with your child over the long weekend. We have been listening to some silly rhyming books as we learn to identify words that rhyme. There are still several students who are having difficulty identifying and producing rhyming words. Please ask your child to give you a thumbs up or thumbs down if two words rhyme or not. For example, bake lake - thumbs up, they rhyme, see sit - thumbs down, they do not rhyme. You can also give them three words and ask them to tell you the two words that rhyme - tree hot bee - tree bee are the rhyming words. Finally, you can give them a word and ask them to give you a word that rhymes with the given word. If you say chair, they can say hair, bear, care, etc. If your child has difficulty with any of these tasks, please continue to work with them. We are also continuing to count syllables in words and match words that begin with the same sound. In science, we learned about our five senses and how we can use them to describe properties of objects. We sorted objects by color, size, shape and texture. This week was "Celebrate Freedom" Week, which is a time to honor the freedoms and rights granted by the United States' founding documents, such as the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. Students were introduced to these documents, as well as the Bill of Rights. The Constitution reminds us that we are all citizens of the United States; we discussed ways that we can be good citizens. Following the Gator Way is something that good citizens always do!
Progress reports will be available to view on Skyward on Wednesday, September 24th. Progress reports go out every six weeks and report cards go out every 9 weeks. These reports are designed to provide feedback to students and parents about student progress toward specific grade level standards. Please be sure to work with your child at home on any standards that have not yet been mastered. They will be assessed again in three weeks for the report card. Thank you!
ROOM PARENT INFO
Have you emailed your class's homeroom room parent yet? If not, PLEASE be sure to do so ASAP so she will have your contact information to add you to the parent class email list. A message from Nurse Liz...
Vision and hearing screenings will take place on Wednesday, September 24th. If your child wears glasses, please be sure s/he wears them to school on this day. Thank you!
Lost Item
This water bottle has been in the library since the second week of school. Please claim it if it belongs to your child. This is also a good reminder to label ALL items that your child brings to school - water bottles, lunch boxes, sweaters, jackets, etc.
Don't let this be you!
SIGHT WORDS
Below are the kindergarten sight words for the entire year. We may not cover them all and we may add in some of our own. Knowing our sight words will help your child tremendously in reading and writing. Each week we will learn two or three new words. Please review these words with your child. Students are expected to read, write and spell these words.
These are the sight words we learned this week:

BOOK BAG, HEADPHONES & MEMORY BOOK REMINDER
** Kindergartners will need a book bag for their take home readers. Please send in $10.00 ASAP to purchase one.
** Your child will be making a special book this year to capture our kindergarten memories. This will include a monthly photograph of your child. Please send a $5.00 cash donation ASAP to help defray the cost.
Thank you!
GREEN FOLDERS
Students have been taking home green "Take Home" folders every day. Please be sure to empty the folder daily and go over any work with your child, especially if there is something that they had difficulty with.
SNACK
Our lunchtime is at 10:30, therefore, you may want to send in one HEALTHY, NUT-FREE and utensil - free snack from home for your child to have in the afternoon. Please do not send in any juice boxes or other drinks, besides water. Due to allergies and other health concerns, we will not be allowed to provide any snacks or allow the students to share snacks.
BREAKFAST & LUNCH CODES
There are many students who buy lunch everyday and still do not know their lunch codes. Please help your child memorize this number; it will help expedite the line, allowing students more time to enjoy their lunch. It would also be helpful if you and your child look at the lunch menu ahead of time, so s/he can make a choice quickly.
