Last week we packed a lot into a 4 day week! It was nice to see parents back in the building to join students for lunch. This week you should have received communication from the room parent for your child's class. If you did not and would like to receive emails from them please email:
roomparents@glenhopePTA.org to get them connected. Thank you!
If you would like to join the first grade GroupMe for updates from parents please follow this link.

This group is organized and operated strictly by parents. Teachers or school staff are not involved, so we will not be able to answer questions about the contents.
In reading, we learned about character traits in our story "Suki's Kimono". One of the things first graders work on is making connections to stories through real life. They enjoy reading stories, discussing the character traits and emotions while making connections to their own experiences. It's an effective tool for practicing comprehension as well as vocabulary study.
We are continuing to work on writing during our literacy time as well as through journal writing. Each day, students write in a journal and illustrate the story. Sometimes finding a topic can be a challenge for some, so they may appreciate talking with a parent or family member about some possible topics. Many of them write about a vacation, party, sports game or practice, movie night or other family event. We focus on proper usage of capitalization, punctuation, spelling and meaningful ideas that follow the same story line.
In social studies, our community unit is continuing with learning on being part of a community and authority figures in the community.
Our science unit on objects and materials continues through early October. We will learn about classifying objects, sorting by characteristics, weight, systems and how things can be changed by heating and cooling.
