Dear Parents,
It's been another great week in 2nd ASPIRE! We are very excited about our upcoming field trip on Thursday, November 13th to the Fort Worth Zoo!
Ms. Bell & Ms. Herrera
Writing: Beginning of Year Personal Narrative Makover
I can set goals as a writer based on my beginning of year writing sample.
I can use what I’ve learned in writing so far this year to improve my beginning of year story.
I can utilize a pre-write and planning resource to organize my writing.
I can edit and revise my rough draft.
I can publish a final copy of my new and improved story.
Reading: Realistic Fiction Introduction Book Clubs
I can show my deep thinking about my realistic fiction book club text by completing a reader’s response.
I can use the Depth and Complexity icons to communicate deep thoughts about my book.
I can follow my book club group’s agreed-upon norms and contribute to my group’s conversation.
Math: Geometry overview and Decomposing Shapes
I can classify, sort, and create two-dimensional shapes based on given attributes, including the number of sides and vertices.
I can compose and decompose two-dimensional shapes (such as cutting out a square from a rectangle, dividing a shape in half, or partitioning a rectangle into identical triangles, etc.) and identify the resulting geometric parts.
I can determine the area of a rectangle using square units and create shapes with a certain area.
Science: Sound
I can demonstrate and explain that sound is made by vibrating matter and that vibrations can be caused by a variety of means, including sound.
I can explain how different levels of sound are used in everyday life.
I can design and build a device using tools and materials that uses sound to solve the problem of communicating over a distance.
Social Studies- Career Project
I can explore careers that I want to learn more about to prepare for my career research project.

Ms. Bell and Ms. Herrera are still looking for puzzle donations that are appropriate for grades 2-4. We appreciate the puzzles that have been donated!! THANK YOU!
Ms. Bell's class has library on Wednesdays this year and Ms. Herrera's class has library on Tuesdays. 2nd graders can check out two books at a time, and should bring books back to check out new ones before library the following week. Thanks for your help in making sure books come back to school. Better yet, make a habit of storing the library books in your child's backpack so they are always there!
As a reminder, we have two snack times during the day. Please be sure to send nut-free (NO PEANUTS OR TREE NUTS) snacks. Please remember to put snacks in your child's backpack and not in their lunchbox. We send lunch boxes down to the cafeteria early in the day, so it's important that snacks are left in backpacks in the classroom. Thank you!
We would like to provide additional support at school if your family is experiencing difficulties at home.
If your child is coming to school after a difficult night, morning or weekend please email me with the words "Handle with Care." Nothing else will be said or asked. This will let me know that your child may need extra time, patience, or support during the day.
We have the most INCREDIBLE PTA here at Glenhope. Please check out their website to learn more!
