Thank you to everyone who made it to Curriculum Night last night. It was a short time, so please access the slide presentation in Mrs. Ilic's newsletter if you want to review any of the information that was shared. A question was raised about the Group Me for First Grade Parents. If you would like to join the group for updates from parents you can follow this link.

This group is organized and operated strictly by and for parents. Teachers or school staff are not involved, so we will not be able to answer questions about the contents.
This week in first grade we completed iReady assessments. After the holiday weekend we will continue working on procedures and implementing those into our routines for small group instruction in math and reading.
In math we began our unit on addition and subtraction to 10 and then 20. During this unit students will be combining, separating, solving for unknowns and applying those skills to word problems. We will also focus on fact fluency to develop automaticity.
We have also been learning about communities in social studies. Students have shared the different types of communities they share and how they contribute to the family, school and local communities.
In science we discussed properties and characteristics of objects. We sorted based on different properties to better understand how classifying objects works.
