One man's trash is another man's treasure!
We are collecting recycled items to build 3D castles in first grade, race cars in second grade and monuments in fourth grade. We would appreciate anything you think might spark creativity in a student as they take on these challenges.~ Thank you!
Boxes, boxes, boxes...
Amazon boxes
Tissue boxes
Cereal boxes
Snack item boxes
...and more boxes!
We need things that roll for wheels...lids,lids, lids!
Items for axles...
straws, chopsticks, wooden dowels
We also collect all kinds of craft supplies like yarn, pipe cleaner, spools, buttons, gems, glitter, scrapbooking paper, stickers, etc.
Think 3-D shapes...
Cylinders
Cones
Rectangular prisms
Cubes
Spheres
Toliet paper rolls
Paper towel rolls
Water bottles
Tubs
Tins
Our class read several versions of Cinderella and imagined how the original characters might feel about the changes in some of the "fractured" versions.
Next up? Students will be analyzing 3-D figures and incorporating them (through recyclables) as they design and construct their own castle.
Second Grade
Second grade students analyzed systems around our campus to set the foundation for this year's theme. After looking at many systems, they chose one to justify as to why they thought it was considered a system. Now on to using recyclable materials to design a race car to include all the necessary parts that make it a working system!
Third Grade
Our third graders have been examining the power necessary to take flight as well as the historical significance of discoveries in flight. We are getting ready for our field trip to the C.R. Smith Museum and picnic at The Founders' Plaza on Friday, September 26th. We are SO excited!
Fourth Grade
Fourth graders spent time looking at famous monuments and their symbols. Using brainstorming and graphic organizers, they each decided what critical elements of themselves to represent in creating their own monument.
Fifth graders are busy constructing personal goals as we explored the power of yet in growth mindset. Using FFOE (fluency, flexibility, originality and elaboration) they have been creating mind maps of four different goals. Next up will be narrowing the four "yets" down to one so that we can met one on one to discuss the goal and determine if it meets the criteria of a SMART goal.
