Avery says she is special because, “I am joy.” Her friend Risha says, "Avery is a good friend because she is super kind and is always responsible for her stuff."
WHAT A BUSY WEEK
In math we continued to build number sense to 20 by sequencing numbers from least to greatest and greatest to least. We also identified numbers that are one more and one less than a given number. We practiced counting from 1 to 100 by 1s and 10s and backwards from 20 to 1. In literacy, we continued to learn about short vowels and the sounds they make. We had to identify the vowel sounds in the middle of words and build and read three-letter cvc words.
100 Days of School
Thank you to everyone who sent in items for our 100th Day of School celebration. The students had a wonderful day and enjoyed the snack mix we made with all the donations!
Toilet Paper rolls
We will be doing a fun project and we need approximately 120 empty toilet paper (or paper towel) rolls. Please send some in whenever you can. Thank you!
Valentine's Party
We will be having a Valentine's Tea Party on Friday, February 13th at 8:15 (note the new time). Parents are invited to attend and they do not need to dress up - it's been asked! Thank you to Kate Austen and our room parent volunteers who have already been hard at work preparing for the tea party. We will be exchanging cards at our party. A list of students in our class went home in your child's green folder last week. Your child may cut out the names and tape them to the cards or write the names on them. Please send in a card for each child in the class and return them on Monday, February 9th. We will make a valentine holder in class; you will not need to make one at home.
You are cordially invited to

The kindergartners will be taking a field trip to the Fort Worth Zoo on Thursday, March 26th. The students do not know, so please don't say anything just yet! We will be needing chaperones to join us for the day, however siblings may not tag along. Please be sure to fill out your background check if you would like to go. Our amazing PTA will be paying for this so there is no cost for the students, however chaperones will have to pay. Further details and a permission slip will be sent home soon.
BOOK BAGS
All students need to keep their reading bags (and library books) in their backpacks when they are not reading them.
There are still some students who are not reading their books at home and are having difficulty keeping up in class. Please help your child become a confident and fluent reader by having him/her read everyday. We cannot stress enough how important this is!
Some of the reading strategies for students to use:
Point to each word (very important for beginning readers)
Use the pictures for clues
Go back and re-read
Look at the beginning letter(s)
Here are some additional ways to use these books after reading them:
· Read the pictures to tell the story
· Look for sight words
· Retell the story – what happened in the beginning, middle and end
· Ask how this story relates to real life; can they make any connections
FEBRUARY CHARACTER TRAIT: HONESTY
The character trait for the month of February is honesty. Students will learn that honesty means "being truthful in what you say and do."
SIGHT WORDS
Below are the kindergarten sight words for the entire year. We may not cover them all and we may add in some of our own. Knowing our sight words will help your child tremendously in reading and writing. Each week we will learn two or three new words. Please review these words with your child. Students are expected to read, write and spell these words.
