In case I did not thank you personally, I want to express my extreme gratitude for the thoughtfulness and generosity of so many this holiday season. Thank you so much for thinking of me and our classroom.🥰
Also an apology...I bought a new phone and in the trasfer process I somehow lost a ton of photos that no matter what we tried, we could not retrieve. Sorry to the first and third grade parents for the lack of photos. I will just have to double up for y'all in 2026!
I will be assessing kindergarten through fourth grade students for GT and ASPIRE for the month of January. I will not pull any grade level GT students again until the first week of February. All GT students can access two enrichment sites (Brain Boosters and Puzzlemania) that has a variety of activities to do during this time on their devices.
We are finishing up these second nine weeks units and will start new ones in the new year.
1st Grade - Authentic Research
2nd Grade - Simple Machines
3rd Grade - Spy School
4th Grade - Detective School
5th Grade - Independent Research
First Graders went around the school to discover ways to improve it. They voted and came up with three ways they could make Glenhope better. After speaking with Gator administration and the PTA we narrowed it down to two choices. Now students are working together to make a proposal they can present to Mrs. Ilic and the PTA. Will it be a new sink for Mrs. Towery in the art room or a dedicated, painted wall ball space? I can tell you which one Mrs. Towery is hoping for...Stay tuned for the results!
Second Grade
Students are deep into planning and building a wolf catching machine to keep the "Big Bad Wolf" away from the Three Little Pigs. They must incorporate at least two simple machines AND not harm the wolf in the process. We aslo took a little break from designing to have some holiday fun!
Third Grade
The third grade GT LEADers are winding down Spy School with a mission! They will "travel" all around the United States by breaking codes created by teams. Breaking the codes will help guide students to the city and state to visit. Once there, they will get to learn cool facts about each state that they visit with their teammates.
Fourth Grade
The Fourth Grade GT LEADers solved the case of the Longhorn Bandit! Using all their newly developed detective skills, they came to the conclusion that it had to be Mrs. Ulrich and they were right! Some were very upset she went against my Longhorns; however, there were also some that were very happy!
Fifth Grade
Fifth Grade scholars have chosen their topic of interest and have been busy researching this month. The main focus has been learning ways to distinguish relevant from irrelevant information independently. We are also learning how to determine credible websites, take valuable notes and site our resources. Next up? Creating final products and presenting to classmates.
