What a stellar week it's been as we continue to launch into another successful week! Our students and staff have been shining as bright as the stars, and we'll keep celebrating their hard work and dedication. This week, we're particularly excited to introduce our new Gator Wagon, a mobile reward cart filled with all kinds of cosmic treats and fun items. Students can use their hard-earned Gator Bucks to buy things and blast off with some well-deserved rewards.
A huge shout-out to our incredible PTA for their support in getting this project off the ground—it's truly out of this world! They've helped us create a fantastic way to recognize students for everything they do, from their amazing engagement during learning to following the Gator Way/CHAMPS. We are excited for students to see our wagon this week.
During lunch, our K-2 students are also working towards earning karaoke at lunch, and our 3-5 students are aiming for free seating by earning badges for following CHAMPS during lunch! 4th and 5th have already earned a few days of free seating, and we enjoyed watching them mix up! Friendly reminder that if you join your child at lunch, please follow our campus rules with NO electronics for students and staying seated during lunch. We ask that no pictures be taken at lunch with students in the background. Thank you for helping us keep our expectations clear and in routine!
Important Forms Needed
We need your help to ensure we have all the necessary information for your child. Please log into Skyward in browser mode and complete the important forms that were added after school registration. These forms are crucial for several reasons:
Student Safety and Care: The forms give us permission to provide immediate care if your child has a playground accident or isn't feeling well at school.
Counseling Support: Our wonderful school counselor will use these forms to continue her important work with students. She provides guidance lessons and helps students navigate friendships and academic behaviors, ensuring they have the support they need to succeed.
Club Form: Students can not attend clubs during Gatorville or after school clubs if this is not complete.
Your cooperation in completing these forms allows us to continue providing the best possible care and support for every student.
Let's show some appreciation for our staff! If you are feeling grateful for anyone on our staff and would like to pass that message along, please share it here. We will share it in our weekly staff newsletter!
Do you have a question I can help answer, or feedback to make Glenhope even better! Please complete the form!

The Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that identifies students’ strengths and opportunities for growth.
That information helps determine how to best support their learning. Watch this video to learn more.
How can I access my student’s results?
Log in to your student’s i-Ready Dashboard through their Classlink icon and then click on the i-Ready icon.

I am excited to host Coffee with Principal Ilic this year so I can meet families, share great news that is happening at our school, and get feedback. Our first event will be on September 25th.
Our topics will include campus goals, campus safety, parent partnerships, STAAR, and more!
Have a topic you’d like to hear about this year? Complete THIS FORM to share your idea!
We're so excited to welcome cafeteria visitors! Please see some friendly reminders below to ensure we can continue our routine.
To make your visit enjoyable, we've set aside special visitor tables near the back where you can sit with your own children.
Friends will need to remain with their class at their designated table.
Follow the same rules as we do at the school, such as staying seated at the table, no electronics, and no back and forth between the class table and parent table.
During the last five minutes of each lunch period, we go to level 0 and cleanup. This helps signal that it's time to start cleaning up and helps create a calm environment as students finish their meals.
Discuss special treats and snacks with your child in regards to when they can buy these from the cafeteria. We have had to remind numerous students to not get ice cream every day before eating their food or they ask if they can get ice cream every day. We encourage them to ask at home what day is best for them to get an ice cream or special snack!
We can't wait to see you!

Important Reminder: Responsible Use of GCISD Accounts
Parents and Students,
GCISD Technology Services noticed an increase in non-instructional copyrighted files (music, movies) on student Google Drive accounts. This violates district policy and federal copyright law. Our Acceptable Use and Intellectual Property policies, along with the Student Code of Conduct, prohibit such activity.
Violations can lead to serious consequences for students, including loss of computer privileges and potential legal penalties (fines from $750-$150,000 and criminal charges). "Fair Use" does not apply to personal entertainment.
Please speak with your child and ensure they immediately delete any non-instructional, copyrighted materials from their GCISD Google Drive. Your cooperation helps us maintain a safe and compliant digital environment. Continued violations will result in disciplinary action.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
Nutrition Services' Happy or Not Feedback Device
Nutrition Services is excited to introduce the new and improved version of the Happy or Not device as part of our ongoing efforts to gather valuable student feedback on our school lunches. Over the past few years, this device has traveled through the district, offering essential insights into our menu choices. The key question we’re asking is, “How was your lunch today?”
Understanding our students' preferences helps us better meet their needs, and the Happy or Not device makes it fun and easy for students to share their thoughts with just the press of a button. The units will be making their way through the district starting September 9.
Review the 2025-2026 Student Code of Conduct, Parent Handbook
GCISD is having a successful start to the school year! Please help us keep that momentum going by taking a moment to review with your students the 2025-2026 Student Code of Conduct and 2025-2026 Student Parent-Handbook, which includes dress code and updates from the 89th Legislative Session.
GCISD Technology Open Office Hours for Parents

Senate Bill 12 Required Forms
I have received the majority of Counseling consent forms and am thrilled to resume regularly interacting with our students. Next week we will have our new student lunches, and the following week will begin our monthly Guidance lessons. Because we are starting lessons mid-September, our September and October lessons will be combined into one lesson. Students will learn about two traits: Empathy and Responsibility. October is Bullying Prevention Awareness month, so students will also learn how to recognize, respond to, and report bullying concerns. **Your student will not participate in this lesson if you have declined consent for counseling services, or if you have not yet completed the consent form**
Welcome to the Swamp Lunch for New Gators!
"Welcome to the Swamp" lunches for our new-to-Glenhope 1st-5th graders will begin on September 10th. If your student is new to Glenhope and you have signed the consent for counseling services, be on the lookout for an invitation coming in your child's take home folder. The lunch will take place in the Counseling classroom during their regularly scheduled lunch time. New students will be able to connect with one another, learn more about Glenhope, and have fun!
September 10 - 2nd* and 3rd Grade
September 11 - 4th and 5th Grade
September 12th - 1st* Grade
*Due to the large number of new students in the 1st and 2nd grade ASPIRE program, the 1st and 2nd grade Welcome to the Swamp lunch will be for non-ASPIRE new students. I will connect with our new ASPIRE students at a different time. Our returning students might be lonely at their lunch tables if our new ASPIRE 1st and 2nd graders joined!
Check-Ins
If your child is ever in need of a check-in or if you have any concerns to discuss, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at lauren.canafax@gcisd.net A consent form must be on file for me to conduct a check-in.

ACTION REQUIRED: Families should review the information below and log into their student’s Skyward account to complete the pop-up permission forms.
Senate Bill 12, passed during the 89th Legislative session, requires school districts to obtain parent permission for student club participation as well as health services and school-based counseling and support services. It also contains requirements for sharing instructional plans and the prohibition of assisting with social transitioning. The new laws go into effect for the 2025-2026 school year. Families should review the information below and log into their student’s Skyward account to complete the pop-up permission forms.
Student Club Participation
SB 12 requires that parents give written consent before a student may participate in a student club authorized or sponsored by the school. School districts may not authorize or sponsor a student club based on sexual orientation or gender identity. All clubs authorized or sponsored by GCISD will be in accordance with all applicable laws and policies.
If a parent does not give general permission, they will be contacted about each individual club or activity for which their student expresses interest in attending. A paper permission form will be sent home and must be completed and returned to the school prior to the student being permitted to attend or participate in any club meetings.
Health Services
SB 12 requires that staff must have parent consent before providing a student with any care, unless it is a life-threatening emergency. This includes:
Assessment of minor injuries and providing basic first aid (like a scraped knee)
Assessment and management of common health issues and illnesses
Checking vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse rate, respiratory rate, and pulse oximetry
Monitoring chronic conditions and implementing care plans as appropriate
Provide general health teaching to students on topics such as hygiene, illness prevention, and healthy habits
Proving state mandated screenings
Administration of epinephrine delivery system for anaphylactic reaction or an opioid antagonist, such as Narcan or naloxone, in accordance with TEC and GCISD Board Policy
Application of topical preparations such as Aloe Vera gel, first aid spray, Benadryl cream, etc.
Additionally, you will find a full list of detailed services provided by GCISD campus nurses within the form in Skyward.
School-Based Counseling Services and Support Services
SB 12 requires that parents give permission prior to student participation in school-based counseling and support services. This includes setting academic goals and creating academic plans, guidance lessons, developing social well-being, and access to our character education curriculum, known as Character Strong.
What Support May Include:
Setting academic goals and creating academic plans
Developing social well-being
Checking in about emotions, challenges, or concerns
Learning coping strategies and managing stress
Addressing school-related issues (e.g., attendance, test anxiety, behavior, peer conflict)
Building friendship and conflict-resolution skills
Guidance lessons utilizing the Character Strong program
Participating in short-term individual or group sessions on school-related topics*
*Parents/guardians will be notified and asked for additional consent if individual or group counseling is recommended.
School Counseling Does Not Include:
Therapy or long-term mental health counseling
Assistance with social transitioning
Sharing Instructional Plans
SB 12 requires that teachers share an instructional plan or course syllabus with parents at the start of each semester. Teachers will email parents directly using email addresses provided in Skyward.
Prohibition of Assisting with Social Transitioning
SB 12 prohibits school district employees from assisting students with social transitioning, which includes helping them change their name, pronouns, or other expressions of gender identity that differ from their biological sex at birth.
Any applicable GCISD policies will be amended to be in alignment with state law.
The i-Ready diagnostic is a powerful tool that helps us understand each student's specific academic needs in math and reading. These assessments are not a test to study for; they simply give us a starting point for the year. This information is crucial for our teachers as they plan differentiated instruction to help every child succeed.
Students in kindergarten through fifth grade will be taking these assessments on their devices, and we have approximately three to complete them. Please make sure your child brings their fully charged device (iPad or Chromebook) and a pair of headphones to school every day starting Monday, August 18. Having a charged device and headphones is essential for a smooth testing process.
Please read this letter, which explains more about i-Ready and its purpose.
GCISD has a variety of committees that provide District leaders with valuable feedback while offering opportunities for employees, parents, and community members to become more involved and make a positive impact on the education of GCISD students.
