What an amazing week! From the Carol of Lights parade where our Glenhope Gators turned into friendly pirates, to an exciting spelling bee, our students stayed busy. They even rocked their learning and surpassed their mid-year i-Ready goals.
One quick reminder for smooth sailing: please help make sure Chromebooks get charged each night. We’ve noticed more uncharged devices lately, and when that happens, learning has to hit the brakes. Thanks for keeping our crew powered up!
Our holiday tradition is back! All stockings were donated (THANK YOU)—now we just need your help to fill them.
If you’d like your child to join, please send small, nut-free gifts for your child’s homeroom by Monday, December 15th.
Hendrickson-19 students
Robey-18 students
Walker-20 Students
Gift ideas: pencils, erasers, party favors, bookmarks, small toys, candy.
Students will open their stockings together during our class holiday party on Wednesday, December 17th.
Thank you for helping make this season magical! ❄️❤️
A parent has kindly invited all our 3rd grade Glenhope Gators and their families to Cookies with Santa on December 13th from 2–5 PM. Come enjoy some holiday treats and festive fun — we hope to see you there!
Gator families, the holiday season is almost here, and we’re ready for all the festive fun! To make crafts and special classroom activities extra magical, we’ve put together a holiday wish list.
Any donation, big or small, helps make this season sparkle for our Gators! 💚
We love seeing our students excited about their favorite toys and fidgets — but we’ve noticed they’re starting to take over our classrooms like tiny, colorful invaders.
Starting this week, toys and fidgets should stay at home unless a student has a fidget accommodation listed in their IEP or 504 Plan. For students who do have approved fidgets, please make sure they:
Fit in one hand
Can be used quietly while working
This helps us keep our classrooms focused, calm, and ready for learning. Thank you for your support! 💚🐊
- Please remind your child to take proper care of their Chromebook: always carry it with two hands, keep it away from food, drinks, and younger siblings, and store it safely when not in use. Each night, ensure there is a designated place to charge the Chromebook and double-check that it makes it into your child’s backpack each morning. While we will reinforce that caring for the device is the student’s responsibility, your support during these first few weeks is essential.
Additionally, please send in wired earbuds or headphones that plug into your child’s Chromebook. If possible, label them with your child’s name.
For those who have kindly asked about our Amazon wish lists, you can find them by clicking below.
Last week we wrapped up The Chocolate Touch and worked together to determine the theme of the story. We also completed our i-Ready diagnostics, and our students showed amazing growth—we’re so proud of their hard work!
This week students will be learning...
Reading- This week in Reading, we’ll be diving into a variety of holiday books from our amazing librarian, Mrs. Arnold! As we read, students will practice making and confirming predictions (TEKS 3.6A, 3.6C, 3.7C, 3.7E) and continue to explore figurative language, such as similes, metaphors, and personification (TEKS 3.3B, 3.6D, 3.6F, 3.7C, 3.7F, 3.7G, 3.10D). We’ll also look closely at text structure to understand how authors organize their ideas (TEKS 3.6G, 3.7C, 3.7G, 3.9Diii, 3.10B) and compare points of view to see how different narrators shape a story (TEKS 3.7C, 3.7F, 3.7G, 3.10E).
Grammar-This week, students will practice verbs in the past, present, and future (TEKS 3.11Dii). They will identify different verb tenses in sentences and use them correctly in their own writing to make their stories clear and accurate.
***8's fact fluency quiz Thursday (12/11)***
Monday we will be doing our IREADY MOY diagnostic
Last week we began our Unit 4 Multiplication and Division Application.
This week the students will be learning...
I can use a problem-solving model to solve multiplication and division problems. (TEKS 3.4K)
II can represent and solve one-step multiplication and division problems. .(TEKS 3.5B)
I can represent and solve one- and two-step multiplication and division problems.(TEKS 3.5D)
To help your child at home with these skills-
Create word problems involving up multiplication with two digit multiplied by one digit.
Practice their multiplication facts/ skip counting. (Students can log onto canvas for a link to our songs and online flashcards)
Work in independent practice workbook on pages.
Practice division and multiplication multi-step story problems.
The images below are some ideas of math practice to do at home (choice board) and examples of these types of representations.
Check out our problem solving model!
This is a tool we call 'UPS Check!' Using this model helps the students better understand and create a plan before solving when they come across story problems. I HIGHLY encourage you to practice using this model with them while solving story problems.
Dear parents,
Multiplication fluency is a very important foundational skill.
In order to accomplish this goal, students will practice their multiplication facts and will be quizzed every Thursday. Each quiz has 20 questions and they will be given 3 minutes to complete the quiz. They must score at least a 70% in order to move on to the next fact. The facts that will be assessed are x0-x12.
They will have class time to practice their facts but we also ask that they practice at home.
We recommend using flashcards and/or playing online multiplication games.
Recommended free Multiplication practice websites:
www.ascendmath.com
Click the yellow button Flashcard Math-FREE
Click the fact your child is currently practicing, select how many questions and the time limit.
https://www.timestables.com/multiplication-games/
Click multiplication games and pick game of your choice or practice multiplication speed by clicking Speed Test X on the menu bar.
Once your child masters all of their facts, they will be awarded a certificate of completion.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
