The students were excited to show their disguised turkeys to their classmates this week! Students wrote stories from the point of view of their turkey and how they managed to escape from being eaten. They will share those stories with the class this coming week.
In Reading, we are continuing to work on our comprehension strategies. We focused on point of view. We read different stories from different point of views and discussed the similarities and differences between first and third point of view. We have been working on digraphs and blends in our phonics lessons. We have also worked on adding -ed and -ing, and learning when we need to double the consonant.
We finished our addition and subtraction unit! We will continue working on addition and subtraction in small groups and during GatorAID time, as developing automaticity with facts is an important skill as students move to older grades. We are spiraling back to data analysis starting this week. We will be focusing on pictographs this week. After data analysis, we will move on to geometry and fractions.
In Science, we have been learning about animals and their young. We have learned about their habitats, food, life cycle, young, prey and predators. This week we learned about the life cycle of a bird, fish, and a dog. Students compared and contrasted the different life cycles.

They raise Nubian and Lamancha goats and use their milk to make goat milk popsicles. She said that their popsicles are sold in different places around the Houston area. The kids really wanted to try them and seemed very interested in the process!
