We’re shaking things up this year with something brand new—Gatorville Clubs! Starting Friday, September 26 (and happening on the last Friday of every month), students will get to step out of their regular routines and join a club of their choice during the school day.
Instead of last year’s Grade Level Mixers, these clubs give kids a chance to mix with students from other grades, spend time with different teachers, and make new friends all across the school.
The choices are as fun and unique as our Gators: Pillow Book Snack, Basketball, Disc Golf, Gator Book Nook Café, Jewelry Making, Coloring, Color Outside the Lines, ImagiGators 3D Printing, Walking Club, Puzzle Mania, Karaoke, and Board Games.
We know your student will come home buzzing with excitement, so don’t forget to ask them which club they picked and what they’re looking forward to most!
Parents should have received an email from your classroom parent. If you did not and would like to receive emails from them please email: roomparents@glenhopePTA.org to get them connected. Thank you!
- Please remind children to take good care of computers; carry with two hands, keep away from food, drinks, and little brothers or sisters. Each night we ask that you have a special place to charge the chromebooks and double check that they make it in your child's backpack in the morning. We will talk to the students about how it is their responsibility, but please help them for the first couple weeks.
***Please send in wired earbuds or headphones that plug into your child's chromebook. Label them with your child's name if possible.
Please make sure your child brings a pair of wired headphones to school as soon as possible. We use headphones every day for learning activities, and unfortunately, we do not have enough extras to provide for everyone in the classroom. Having their own set will ensure your child can fully participate and stay engaged. Thank you so much for helping us make sure all students are prepared for daily learning!

Last week, we practiced asking and answering questions to dig deeper into what we read. We explored the elements of poetry, looked at how authors use figurative language like hyperbole, and studied text and graphic features to help us dig deeper into what a poet wants us to know.
This week students will be learning...
Reading-We are exploring fantasy, letters, and poetry. Students are practicing how to visualize what they read (TEKS 3.6D) and looking closely at literary elements like characters, setting, plot, and theme (TEKS 3.8B, 3.8D, 3.10B). We’ll continue learning about the elements of poetry (TEKS 3.9B) and discover how an author’s point of view shapes the story (TEKS 3.10E).
Grammar-Students are practicing action verbs (and being verbs (like is, am, are, was, were) that tell what something is. We’ll also compare action and being verbs to see how both types help make our sentences complete and clear
Decoding-Students will decode Short and Long Vowels (TEKS: 3.2Ai, 3.2Aiv)
This week the students will be learning...
I can use place value to add and subtract 3 digit numbers. (3.5A)
I can solve one and two step addition and subtraction word problems. (3.4A)
Last week we began solving 3 digit addition and subtraction problems using strip diagrams and number lines. This week, we will continue with this skill but by using standard algorithm with regrouping and borrowing.
To help your child at home with these skills-
Create word problems involving up to three digit numbers to solve.
Practice doing multi-step problems that involve adding and subtracting.
The images below are some ideas of math practice to do at home (choice board) and an example of the ways a student can solve a word problem when adding or subtracting.
3.13A Organisms and environments.
The student knows that organisms undergo similar life processes and have structures that function to help them survive within their environments. The student is expected to explore and explain how external structures and functions of animals such as the neck of a giraffe or webbed feet on a duck enable them to survive in their environment.
3.8A GOVERNMENT
The student understands important ideas in historical documents at various levels of government. The student is expected to identify the purposes of the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution including the Bill of Rights.
3rd Graders combining materials to see who can create the strongest brick.
