Dear Parents,
It has been another fabulous week in 2nd Grade! One of the highlights was meeting with our 5th grade reading buddies for the second time! There are so many wonderful benefits to having a reading buddy, such as improved reading skills and fluency, being a part of a positive reading community, and increased confidence. It is exciting to watch these reading relationships grow and develop over the school year!
Have a wonderful weekend, and thank you for all you're doing at home to support your child here at school! We know it is no small task and we appreciate all of you!
Ms. Bell and Ms. Herrera
We are offering several options for conferences this year to accommodate families.
Option 1: Email Update
Option 2: Phone Conference
Option 3: In-Person Conference
Families who have had a recent in-person or phone conference do not need to schedule a conference at this time unless they have additional questions or concerns. We look forward to talking with you about your child's progress!
6-week progress reports will be available next Wednesday, September 24th in Skyward.
Ms. Bell and Ms. Herrera are still looking for puzzle donations that are appropriate for grades 2-4. We appreciate the puzzles that have been donated!! THANK YOU!
Language Arts: Reader's Responses and Building Writing Stamina
I can show my current level of spelling pattern knowledge on my pretest.
I can evaluate my progress in spelling and set goals for the school year.
I can identify plot elements, make connections, understand character traits and motivations, and make inferences as I read.
I can read and respond to a text by justifying my opinions in a shared inquiry discussion.
Math: Addition and Subtraction
I can show what I already know about addition and subtraction.
I can solve 2 and 3 digit addition problems with and without regrouping.
I can solve multi-step word problems using multiple strategies.
I can explain why regrouping marks are important when stacking numbers.
Science: Matter and Materials
I can classify matter by observable physical properties, including texture, flexibility, and relative temperature, and identify whether a material is a solid or a liquid.
I can investigate how physical properties can be changed through processes such as cutting, folding, sanding, melting, or freezing.
I can demonstrate that small units such as building blocks can be combined or reassembled to form new objects for different purposes and explain the materials chosen based on their physical properties.

Ms. Bell's class has library on Wednesdays this year and Ms. Herrera's class has library on Tuesdays. 2nd graders can check out two books at a time, and should bring books back to check out new ones before library the following week. Thanks for your help in making sure books come back to school. Better yet, make a habit of storing the library books in your child's backpack so they are always there!
As a reminder, we have two snack times during the day. Please be sure to send nut-free (NO PEANUTS OR TREE NUTS) snacks. Please remember to put snacks in your child's backpack and not in their lunchbox. We send lunch boxes down to the cafeteria early in the day, so it's important that snacks are left in backpacks in the classroom. Thank you!
We would like to provide additional support at school if your family is experiencing difficulties at home.
If your child is coming to school after a difficult night, morning or weekend please email me with the words "Handle with Care." Nothing else will be said or asked. This will let me know that your child may need extra time, patience, or support during the day.
We have the most INCREDIBLE PTA here at Glenhope. Please check out their website to learn more!
