**This haiku is filled with so much feeling and metaphysical contemplation. It is a snapshot of the heavens and simultaneously a snapshot of the lonesome heart gazing at it. Somehow the Milky Way accentuates the feeling of loneliness and the wonder of existence itself. I can identify with it, for so often does it happen that gazing at the stars prompts the question “why am I here” and “why am I here alone?”

Or that with our father’s guidance we are able to see the beauty and magic of things usually obscured by the “noise” and distractions of the mundane, everyday world. These are just some of the possible interpretions of this remarkable haiku.

General Comments:
**These haiku were so much better than mine, but that’s still good! Wow!!!
**A lot of emotional content in the entries, which I think is lovely,
but which made voting, for me, quite challenging. Thanks again for
this opportunity to read and vote on a great batch of haiku.
**So many to "see" and "crunch on!" :)
**Thank you for providing the opportunity to participate in a Kukai.
**Never before in this kukai I had the choice between so many interesting kigo haiku. Hard work for me, good job by the editors ...
** This was an unexpectedly beautiful collection, and I enjoyed picking my favourites among them.
**Wow, I think this contest has some of the stronger haiku than I've read in months. Wish I could have given points to many more! Enjoyable reading.
**Looking forward to read and vote on some great haiku in the voting
phase, and results on my entry, too. Thanks again for this wonderful
opportunity.

General Comments:
** Orange you glad you like haiku? :)
**Interesting how poets here in this kukai wove in the fruit and color
'orange' to their lines--such wonderful variety. Great reading,
challenging to vote on. Thanks again.
**Thank you for giving me an opportunity to assess such lovely haiku.
**Lots of fun. Thanks.
**I'm excited to see that Shiki has caught on in Soweto! Truly spanning the globe!
**Some really good ones here. It was a struggle to divvy up the votes.
**Oranges (the fruit) are kigo in Europe (winter) and in Kenya (cold dry season, i.e. July and August). The Soweto mentioned in the Kenyan haiku is a suburb of Nairobi.
**Thank you for suggesting such a lovely topic.
**Another hard one to judge. I personally like mine best <G> but who doesn't.
**Thanks again for this chance. I look forward, as always, to reading
some great haiku and even vote on them while I await eagerly how my
own fares in the voting phase.
Thank you for participating in the September 2013 Kukai!
We will announce the Poets' Choice Kukai on Monday, October 7th. See you then!
With much appreciation,
The Shiki Monthly Kukai Team
