the moonless night

Anonymous

(1,5,8) = 21 pts

**I can so sympathise with this dilemma!

** And here is a comment about one of the haiku which reminded me of a well-known haiku:

[It] made me turn to Carolyn Hall’s title poem from her book How to Paint the Finch’s Song:

rain-streaked windows

how to paint

the finch’s song

General Comments:

**Many "moons" to gaze at! Excellent entries.

**Lovely to read these haiku. Thanks for your time and the opportunity.

**This section hard to pick, many good ones that capture a melancholy feeling for the missing moon. I really did read them all, but there were so many excellent ones at the beginning!

**Thanks again for this chance to read and vote on some really interesting entries in this kukai.

**There are so many good ones, it's quite a challenge to award the points.

**Thank you for hosting this contest!

** This was a hard one.

General Comments:

**GOOD GOURD! :) (should have entered this one!) [the free format kukai]

**I could easily have voted for more. Thanks for your time and the opportunity.

**Quite a few good ones on a theme that was not so poetic ! Difficult choices !

**Thanks again for the invitation to participate in this kukai, and the opportunity to read and vote for one among the entries.

**General comment : It was hard for me to find haiku to vote for, as I could not understand the cultural references in most of them -- probably related to the way Hallowe'en is celebrated in some countries. I did, however, appreciate those I selected.

** It seems so strange to me to see pumpkins as objects, rather than food...

**Thank you for the insight this theme brought!

**Lower than average quantity and, I believe, quality in this category. That's why I may seem stingy in assigning points this month.

**General comment (and excuse the pun): slim pickings

**Finally googled:

Zucchini - all that you want -

and even healthy

Did you know they can even grow to baseball bat length?
