September means one thing is for certain: ThunderRidge will show out for Homecoming week! This year, we had many homecoming events and activities, which helped those who usually would not normally participate in certain activities show off their skills. Such activities include PowderPuff (all-girl’s football), Man-Leading (all-boy’s cheer), and Ruff-n-Tuff (all-boy’s volleyball). These times are always incredibly exciting and fun for all those who participated, coached, and witnessed the events.
On Monday, September 12, at Halftime Help Stadium, four teams filled with talented ladies played two hard-nosed games of football. The sophomores prevailed over the freshmen, 28-13 and the seniors shut out the juniors, 14-0. Many fans, like Garrett Clark (12), showed up to the games to cheer on their classmates as they fought for some of the first points during homecoming week. Garrett said he was really looking forward to PowderPuff and watching the girls battle it out for points for their class. Runs and interceptions created the most action-packed plays and the greatest chances for the teams to score points. Plus, both teams had their own unique uniforms made from scratch that brought tons of energy to the game and fans.
During the halftime of their class’s respective games, freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors all participated in Manleading. Participants such as Liam Hooks (11), were ecstatic to participate. Each performance was unique in its own way, yet the sophomores and seniors pulled out another victory with their performances. It was a very busy couple weeks for the coaches and participants of the event, trying to get everything set so they could perform the best they could. Many came to cheer on the teams and were very enticed by their performances. Overall, manleading was a very fun event for everyone involved and brought some humor to homecoming week through the performances and unifoms.
Two days after PowderPuff and Manleading, Ruff-n-Tuff was held in the gym. Fans such as Lukas Buffalo (10), who said he is “quite excited for the Ruff-n-Tuff games'' and Brayden Robertson (9), who said, “Ruff n Tuff is going to be very cool and be fun to play and participate in”. Unlike some years, the freshman class really came out to cheer on their class in all events, but most specifically Ruff-n-Tuff. Every class was excited and ready for both sides to duel. Uniforms made from scratch really symbolized the roughness and grit of players from all teams. Players took the court to play intense games of volleyball and score points for their class. As all four teams tried their hardest, the sophomores and juniors pulled out victories, beating the freshman and seniors in their games. Despite the losses, the losing teams both performed well and had tons of fun.
Without the coaches, participants, and volunteers to set up and play in the events, none of it would be possible. We thank them for their hard work to set everything up for the school.
