This year, ThunderRidge couldn’t hide our pride at the state competition for Cheer and POMS. On December 9th, Cheer went to their state competition and placed 2nd out of 11 teams, securing another trophy for our school! The very next day, on December 10th POMS traveled to their
state competition and placed 5th out of 30 teams! It was an amazing victory for both teams and we are so excited to see them go to nationals.
On both teams, not only did the team members work hard all year but so did the coaches. The teams both practiced their routines tirelessly everyday until it was perfect and it was very clear during their competitions. As Coach Taylor, on the cheer team put it, “Repetition leads into a mastery of skill, when you have mastery of a skill you become comfortable and confident in said skill.” and they definitely used the repetition strategy. The teams have been practicing for these competitions since the end of the 2022 school year. Yet, their scores at the competition proved that it was worth it in the end.
However, practice is not the only important aspect of these practices. Team bonding is also a very important part of getting ready for a competition. Isabella St. Marie (11) on the POMS team said “We practice our skills and motion then we have a team motivational circle before we go out,”. The team aspect of these sports is incredibly important so it's good to remember to trust your team before you dance with them or throw them into the air. In fact, out of both teams there was only one fumble on the Cheer team that was easily recovered by the group. Overall, it is clear that this season is going very well for ThunderRidges Cheer and POMS
POMS teams. Both teams are incredibly talented and all of us at ThunderRidge are wishing them good luck in January at their national competition, Although we believe they won’t even need it.
