Braves (20-10)
So many guys to talk about with this year's Braves team. The Braves have been outstanding to start the season. They’ve gotten production from most of their lineup this year led by NL Player of the Month, Ronald Acuña Jr who’s hitting .348 on the season with 10 home runs and a league-leading 17 stolen bases; and, new offseason addition Sean Murphy. He’s been crushing baseballs all year hitting .268 with 10 homers and an unbelievable 975 OPS. That’s top 5 in all of baseball, and he’s a catcher. They’ve also dealt with numerous injuries to start the season and have still played great baseball. No one knows when their ace Max Fried and kyle Wright will come back, so they will have to get guys like Jared Shuster, Dylan Dodd, and the bullpen to give them good innings. The one thing about this Braves team is that their 7-8-9 hitters can do the same amount of damage as their 1-2-3. According to Mlb.com, last year the Braves 7-9 hitters had more RBIs than their 1-3. No other team did that. Reigning NL Rookie of the year Michael Harris II usually hits 8th in their lineup. He would probably be hitting 2nd or 3rd in most lineups in the league. It goes the same for their pitching, they have lots of depth in their bullpen and with the starters. The Braves are the team to beat right now.
Rays (24-6)
The Rays also had an unbelievable start of the season with 13 wins in a row. They homered in every game this season. Their All Stars Randy Arozarena and Yandy Diaz have a combined 14 home runs and 44 RBI’s. Not only is their offense one of the league's best, their pitching has given up only 90 runs so far which is the lowest in the league. The Rays will probably cool down at some point, but for now the Rays look like a serious contender.
Blue Jays (18-12)
The team up north have once again shown that they are a real contender in this league. The Blue Jays made the playoffs as a wild card last year but lost two games to the Mariners in the wild card round. Even though they were only a wild card team, this was a team that had high postseason expectations, but were very underwhelming against the Mariners. Bo Bichette has shown he’s a great player once again with seven home runs and 22 RBIs this season. The rest of the team still has some improving with the rest of the team hitting in 112 runs in to earn a winning record of 18-12. Their pitching so far has held up which is something they will need to maintain to get back to the postseason as a contender (One of the big reasons the Mariners Clobbered them). The Blue Jays fans hope to see them make another good run in the playoffs and try and make a World Series appearance.
Astros (16-14)
The 2022 Champions Houston Astros had a slow start to the season but have picked it up lately. Their offense and pitching has been getting better. With the offense contributing stolen bases and home runs. The pitching is also getting better. After some of their better pitchers have already gotten injured, which is why it's a slow start to the season.
Dodgers (18-13)
The Dodgers have yet again proved to be contenders, even after losing Trea Turner, Corey Seager, and Max Scherzer in the matter of two offseasons. They’ve gotten good production out of rookie James Outman, Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, and Clayton Kershaw looks like he hasn't aged a day from his dominant days.
Orioles
The Orioles have been playing some really good baseball down the stretch. Their offense has been playing well so far, being top 10 in the league, and the pitching (though can improve), has been solid enough to help this team win games. They would be winning almost every other division if the Rays weren’t doing what they are doing right now. Adley Rutschman has been a beast in his sophomore season like he was supposed to, and Jorge Mateo has been a very pleasant surprise, hitting .320 with 6 homers and 11 stolen bases. To take the leap into first place the pitching will have to be better and they will have to get more production from some guys. But so far, The Orioles are a young, electric, and surprising team with a lot to hope for in the future
Brewers (18-11)
The Milwaukee Brewers have been pretty good this season. They started off 18-11, which you’d think would lead the division, but the pirates have been outplaying most teams this season. Though the offense needs some improvement, the pitching has been fantastic yet again. Corbin Burnes has had a “slow start” for him but all of the starters have been electric, ranking 3rd in the league in ERA with all the injuries that have accumulated. Once their team is fully healthy, they are bound to go on a run, we just need to see that offense show up.
Yankees
The Yankees have been solid this year. They started off the year hot, then lost a couple in a row, then got back on track lately.
Red Sox
The Red Sox are technically the last place team in their division, but they have a winning record and are playing well. Masataka Yoshida, Alex Verdugo, and Rafael Devers have all hit well this season. Chris Sale has been shaky so far, but if we know him, it’s that he will get in a groove as the season progresses. But if they keep up their consistency, we could see this team back in October (Probably as a wild card).
Padres
The Padres have had a bit of a disappointing start for what their expectations were before the season, but by no means are they playing bad baseball, and they still have a winning record. Juan Soto had been off to a miserable start, but he is slowly picking it up. Juan Soto is obviously going to get on a hot streak at some point, he’s too good of a player not too. So far, Xander Bogaerts has proved to be a great addition to the lineup, but the pitching and hitting has been mediocre at best. They will have to get more production out of Machado, Soto, and some of the starters to dethrone the Dodgers as the Kings of the NL west. But hey, Fernando Tatis is back, and that is a huge plus.
Update: The Padres have been NOT Playing good baseball lately and sit in 4th in the NL West
Rangers
Even though their city connect jerseys might be awful, their team is doing really well so far. Their offense is one of the best in the MLB right now. All star players such as Adolis Garcia and Nathanial Lowe hitting 12 for 16 over the last 3 games. Both of them combined for 4 homers. The Rangers have good offense and defense, now pitching is another story. Last year most of their pitchers were injured and when they came back they didn’t want to play because of the losing record. Now since everyone is healthy, even the pitching, the Rangers manager Bruce Bochy wants to keep it like that as long as they can. I don’t want to get too excited yet and put the Rangers in the postseason because there's still a long way to go.
Twins
The Twins pitching has been carrying this team to a winning record of (0-0). With Sonny Gray, Joe Ryan, and Pablo Lopez having a record of 10-2. All three of these pitchers are part of the top 10 Cy young candidates in the AL. Their offense is somewhat decent, scoring 4.3 runs a game which is pretty low. It could be better but if they play big teams like the Dodgers or the Rays they’d have a hard time beating them. The offense wins games and pitching and defense wins championships. If the Twins can improve their offense throughout the season well, watch out when it comes playoff time.
Cubs
One word I would describe the Cubs is Fascinating. With a series win against the Dodgers at Home. The Cubs should be proud of what they have accomplished this year with being a playoff contender as of right now and keeping all their players healthy. When it gets down to the final few innings pitcher Micheal Fulmer needs to find a way to close out the game. He has blown three games in the month of April and has an ERA of 8.68 which is one of the worst in the MLB so far this season. Manager David Ross looks to change that around in the month of may putting veteran pitchers in such as Brandon Hughes and Mark Leiter. These two pitchers have more than 3 years of pitching experience and both know how to close out tough games. On the other hand the offense has been doing their Job contributing 173 in the first month and a half of the regular season. Right now if they can keep their consistent winning streaks going they can easily win the NL central.
Diamondbacks
The DiamondBacks have been really good so far. They were expected to finish 4th or 5th in the division with a losing record, but so far they’re 3rd in the division with a 24-19 record. Corbin Carroll has been playing really great and Zac Gallen is an early Cy Young candidate with how well he has performed so far.
Pirates
Speaking of surprises, the Pirates have been the biggest shocker this year. The weird thing about this Pirates team is that they don’t really have strength on paper, but they are top 10 in pitching and batting this year. They’ve gotten incredible production from Connor Joe and Bryan Reynolds so far, and even Andrew McCutchen has shown he’s still got it with the glove and the bat. They’ve also had very solid outings from Vince Velasques and Mitch Keller so far. Lately they have been losing a good amount and dipped to 2nd in the standings, but this a very encouraging sign for a Pirates team that has finished last in their division 5 years in a row.

16.Angels
The Angels have had a respectable start with their 23-22 record. Shohei Ohtani has done Shohei Ohtani things, hitting .292 with 10 homers, and pitching to a 3.23 era. Mike Trout has also done what he usually does, hitting .280 with 10 homers and an 894 OPS (Some people consider this a down year for him). The team hitting has been top 10 in the league, but the pitching continues to be the Achilles heel. I fully expect them to make a couple of moves at the Trade deadline for some pitching depth if they hover around the .500 mark. It was at about this time last year when their annual collapse happened, so maybe they need to make some moves to contend.
17.Mets
The Mets are not playing good baseball as of now. They started off the year solid, but lately they have been losing a lot. They’ve dipped all the way to 4th in the division. The hitting has been mediocre, and the pitching has been below average, which was thought as a strength before the season. Pete Alonso and Brandon Nimmo have been good, but guys like Starling Marte and Francisco Lindor will have to pick it up to live up to their World Series hopes. If we do know one thing about this Mets team, it’s that they have big aspirations, and an even bigger wallet. I wouldn’t be surprised if Steve Cohen Goes and gets Shohei Ohtani.
18.Mariners
The Mariners Have played mediocre so far. They started off bad, then went on a little win streak, and are now about .500. Jarred Kellenic has obliterated baseballs, but former rookie of the year Julio Rodriguez, has played really bad. The pitching has been outstanding, but the offense is 3rd worst in the league. To get back to where they were last year, the offense will have to pick it up, especially J-Rod.
19.Marlins
The Marlins have played good baseball lately. They are second in the NL East behind the Braves with a winning record. Though Sandy Alcantara hasn’t pitched particularly well, the rest of the staff has backed him up, and even the offense has contributed a little bit with Luis Arraez and Jorge Soler. I expect this team to be good in a couple of years when the offense improves.
20.Tigers
The Tigers are a weird team. With the league's worst offense and below average pitching you’d think that this would be one of the worst teams in baseball, but their surprisingly only a couple games below .500. No player stands out on this team except for Eduardo Rodriguez, who has pitched well so far. This Tigers team fights, beating a lot of good teams. Though they don’t stand out, this team should get recognized for the work they’ve done with the little talent around them.
21.Phillies
Win,Lose,Win,Lose. That’s what this Phillies team does. They are very streaky. After all the moves in the offseason, this was a team ready to go back to the world series and many people had them winning the division, but they are playing below average baseball. Like the Angels, The Phillies spent all their money on offensive talent, when their real needs are on the pitching end (Their 72 million dollar man has a 6.53 era as of now). The offense has played well so far like it usually does, but the pitching is 23rd in baseball. If I didn’t know any better, I’d think that the offense is not the problem.
22.Guardians
The Guardians are interesting because their pitching is 8th in the league, but the offense is 2nd worst in the league. Jose Ramirez and Shane Bieber have been good like always, but everyone else hasn’t been that good. We have to remember that this is a team that won the division last year when they were expected to be 3rd or 4th in the division, so don’t count one of the youngest teams in baseball just yet.
23.Giants
Man the Giants could really use Carlos Correa right about now (‘m sorry Giants fans). So far this team has just not been winning ball games. The offense is playing pretty well, and the pitching isn’t awful (It’s not great though), they’ve just been dealt a bad hand. Most of their losses this season have been close games and they just couldn’t pull away in the later innings. Lamonte Wade, J.D Davis, and Anthony Desclafani have all been bright spots this year, but they will need to win those close games to compete with the two powerhouses in the NL West, The Dodgers and Padres (and the Diamondbacks I guess?).
24.Reds
The Reds have surprisingly not been the worst team in the league so far. They haven’t been playing good baseball, but if you go against this team, don’t expect an easy series win. Their offense and pitching doesn’t stand out from the rest, but this is a team that swept the Texas Rangers, and is consistently playing close games. This team has a bright future, especially when their prospects get called up, like Elly De la Cruz and Noelvi Marte.
25.Rockies (12-20)
Consistency is a problem for the hometown team. The Rockies win games at home and not win on the road. If they could win games on the road they’d be a much better team. When they are home they benefit from the fans that support them every year. Everyone in the baseball community knows the Rockies and the Rockies just need new ownership. Denver the city there located all the fans know the Rockies owners don’t care about winning, now if we had owners that wanted to win games and championships that’s a whole different story. If the Rockies even have a chance at the playoffs, the offense and defense needs to give it their all every game either if it’s at Home or on the road.
26.Nationals-
After trading their team away after their world series win in 2019 they have had a losing record every year since 2019. The City/town of DC wants new owners like the Rockies. The team is very young and has potential in the future. Bryce Harper and Juan Soto were traded in the 2021-2022 season to the Phillies and Padres. Those were the only two good nationals players. If you're a Nationals fan you know the odds are very very low in making the postseason. If they do some trades and get some offense going they’d be able to win games. Right now it's not just bad on the road but at home also.
27.Royals
The Royals have veteran players such as Salvador Perez, Hunter Dozier, and young Bobby Wit Jr. Their offense this year has been great, contributing 136 runs in total. Now you compare that to the 225 which is how many runs the Rays scored already this year. That's a big difference. If they can resist getting injuries and their pitching gets better they can be a winning team.
28.Cardinals (10-22)
The Cardinals have 10 wins and 22 losses this season. If you were to tell that to an average baseball fan, there is no way they would believe you. The Cardinals offense has been whatever, but the pitching has been absolutely atrocious. That was a concern coming into the season about their starting pitching depth, but their offense is so talented that most thought it would outweigh the pitching problem. Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Gorman (No we didn’t mean to say Arenado) have both played well so far, and Jordan Montgomery has been solid, but the rest of the pitching staff has been awful.Lately they have been playing better baseball, but if they want to turn their season around they will need their rotation and bullpen to step up.
29.White Sox (10-22)
The White Sox are having a similar season to the Cardinals. They have great talent but their offense has not been good at all this season. The defense has been seen making silly mistakes by not making routine plays. If they can fix the silly mistakes they’d be a much better Ball club. So far their pitching has been one of the league’s worst, same with the offense. What is going on with the team that many people had winning the world series in 2021?
30.A’s (6-26)
The A’s are obviously the worst team in baseball. They didn’t have high expectations, but nothing has gone right for them so far except Brent Rooker. He has crushed baseballs this year and is going to be involved in some trade talks later in the year if he keeps up his production. The A’s don’t have much to hope for in the upcoming years, but they have a lot of prospect talent, and maybe the move to Las Vegas will spark something into their guys. But some moves need to be made for sure.
