The 2022 Grammy’s introduced us to a new category, the Best Global Music performance, won by Arooj Aftab born in Saudi Arabia. She won for her song “Mohabbat” off her 3rd studio album Vulture Prince (2021). Another new Grammy’s category, Best Musica Urbana Album, won by Bad Bunny for his album El Último Tour del Mundo. This year rapper Kanye West now shares the title of “Most Grammys awards won by a rapper’ with Jay-Z with 24 Grammys. Jay-Z still holds the record of most nominations with 83, while Knaye west sits at 75 nominations.

Jon Basiste is an American actor born in Louisiana. And performed with many well known artists such as Prince, Willie Nelson, and Lenny Kravitz. He is well known for writing It’s All Right for the recent Disney movie Soul. He was nominated for Record of the year as well for his song Freedom.

Silk Sonic is an R&B duo consisting of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak. Silk Sonic released their debut album, Leave the Door Open in 2021 winning song of the year and best R&B performance in the 2022 Grammys.

This was ABBA’s first ever Grammy nomination! The Swedish band formed over 50 years ago, they were first discovered for winning the 1974 Eurovision for their performance of one of their most well known songs, “Waterloo”. ABBA stands for the first letter of each member, Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny and Anni-Frid, though the word Abba in Hebrew means father.

Winner: Oliva Rodrigo

Rising star Olivia Rodrigo won three times at her first ever Grammys. Oliva was nominated for best new artist, best pop vocal album, best pop solo performance, album of the year, song of the year, record of the year, and best music video. She won for best new artist, best pop vocal album and best pop solo performance.


The next Grammys will be held January 31st in MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Until then we can only make predictions about who will be nominated. Many think Adele’s newest album 30, or the Weekend’s Dawn FM and Harry Styles’ new 4th studio album Harry’s House, to be released on May 20th, is sure to be nominated.
