Classic Rock and Roll music is certainly a dying breed, as many prefer newer rap or pop music. Some, like the local ThunderRidge hard rockers Lobby Quality, disagree and are bringing wholesome classic rock back. Popular bands from the past have spawned many pop culture fads, Van Halen started the hair metal craze of the 80’s, the Beatles were the craze of the 60’s and set a large influence of future groups, and bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam started the Seattle grunge scene of the 90’s. Being a popular musician was less accessible back then because of the lack of computers and social media which now allows artists to effortlessly produce music and get recognized.

Where does Lobby Quality get their inspiration? Aidan Jones said, “I pulled a lot from Zeppelin and Nirvana for one of our originals.”
Gabe Adams outlined another source of inspiration for the band. “Just listening to music. We all listen to music a bunch. We pretty much always have our headphones in or when we are in the car we have the Bluetooth playing whatever songs we listen to. Whenever we hear something we like, we say ‘Oh I can probably play that.’”
What about the origins of the band? “Aidan started playing drums. He started taking lessons from another student,” said Gabe.
Aidan, the guitarist, started out playing the drums before going to the guitar, similar to how Eddie Van Halen started out on drums before playing guitar. Gabe’s now graduated brother Haven ended up playing the bass, and the rest is history. Aidan and Gabe have known each other for a very long time. “Me and Aidan have been friends for probably six years. We didn’t start the band until around a year ago,” Gabe said.

Being in a band is a very healthy and fun pastime. It’s a lot of fun to write your own music and potentially perform it for others. Plenty of rock bands from days ago started in high school, including Radiohead, the Who and even the Beatles. Whether Lobby Quality turns out to be a massive success, selling out arenas around the world, we will just have to wait and see.
