The State of the Union is a speech that is required for each president to give once a year usually around January or February; the speech is required by the constitution of the United States. The speech is something that the president gives that talks about what is going on currently in the country and what his plans are for the rest of his term. This is a summary of the topics that the president thinks is important and wishes to address to the public on how he is going to fix it or change it.
President Biden talked about many different things in the State of the Union starting off with the tension between Russia and Ukraine. He also talked about how he grew up and that they had trouble getting food which led him into talking about the American rescue plan act which will help people get food, health care, and other topics that will help people survive. This can help people who are making less than $75,000 each year and are the head of the house by giving them an extra $1,400 per-person check. You are able to get your money when you file your taxes, as an example if you have four kids you will receive $5,600 back once you file your taxes. The government is able to support small businesses who are struggling to stay alive for the time being due to reduced revenue caused by the pandemic.
Another act that was brought up was the Bipartisan Infrastructure law; this will allow companies to create good jobs for millions of Americans, letting them modernize roads and other important things that Americans use on a daily basis. One of the guests that President Biden brought was the Intel CEO and he was upping his investment in manufacturing from $20 Billion to $100 Billion. Intel is not the only company that is investing in different things to make this world better; Ford and GMC are also investing money. This is important because Biden is trying to get more items that we use made in America, rather than being made in Japan and/or different countries and having them shipped to America. This is something that Biden is trying to do so that things might possibly be cheaper here in America, letting us get different items faster, and to be a more self-sustaining nation. Another thing that was brought up was inflation during Covid and his way of solving it; his goal is to make items cheaper, not lower wages.
Another special guest that was brought was Josuah and he needs insulin to survive. So, President Biden is going to try to cut the cost of how much it costs because producers are charging more money than it costs to make. Biden is attempting to make it cost $35 a month. He wants to raise the minimum wage to 15 an hour and extend the child tax credit.
Since Covid started we were worried, now Biden is saying that we are accepting and living with Covid. He said that we will keep fighting the virus and combating the new variants that might come in the future. He is working on trying to get vaccines approved for children under 5 and also trying to create a test to treat which will let them be tested for the virus, and if people test positive, the government will receive pills on the spot to combat the virus.
During his speech, he brought up the topic of the police. The President said he was going to fund the police rather than what everyone else wants. He is going to provide 350 billion dollars to police departments in cities and states to help fund their police department and to help combat things that police need to do. This will try to give them more options about how they can take on different situations rather than not having many options to choose from. Biden did talk about the person that he nominated to get onto the Supreme Court and that is Ketanji Brown Jackson who will likely be the 116th person to be on the Supreme Court.
This was President Biden's first State of the Union that he has given and he has a couple more that he needs to give. Hopefully, Biden follows through with his plans that he has told us during his speech.
