The upcoming ski season is around the corner! We talked with a few fellow ThunderRidge High School students and got some of their opinions on different ways to make ski season the best season yet. 

There are many different mountains in Colorado to ski. A lot of them are close, some are further and further West in Colorado, some mountains are further South. Anja Dobbins (11) believes that Arapahoe Basin (A-Basin) is the best mountain to ski during the month of February. So what makes Arapahoe Basin so great? A-Basin can stay open all the way until June or even July, it has some of the best expert terrain, and it has phenomenal snow due to its high altitude, sitting at an elevation of 13,050 feet above sea level. Everyone has different opinions on which mountain is better, they each hold different memories and reasons as to why they think the mountain they picked is the best.

 Everyone has a different taste on what they like to wear while on the mountain. Nic Vicic (12), Anja Dobbins (11), and Garrett Clark (12) all agree that Burton is their favorite ski brand. Burton has the most reliable and warm jackets and pants the students say, if you’re searching for good quality gear, Burton is the right choice for you.

 Some may say powder days are the best ski days. Katy Thompson (11) says that powder days are her favorite because she likes when you can carve fresh new lines from the snow. Katy only has a few things she does not like about powder days and that consist of getting stuck in the trees and the melting snow on the fresh snow. This can cause the snow to become slushy and very easy to get stuck or catch an edge in.

 If you are looking for the best snow and the best weather, Ryan McCullough (11) believes that the best time to go skiing is in late January. This is when the powder is best and the mountains are less crowded following the Christmas and Winter Break seasons, which gives you ultimately the best skiing experience. 

Overall, we spoke with many different skiers at ThunderRidge about their opinions of ski season and they provided us with some of the best recommendations for the best experiences. Going skiing is a great outdoor experience and some fantastic memories come from being on the mountain.
