Homecoming at ThunderRidge is a crazy week with all the events and action. ThunderRidge makes homecoming a great experience, with all the activities it has to offer. They especially make a big deal of Field Day. One of the most under-appreciated events of Homecoming is the Parade. Hosted at Saddle Ranch Elementary, the parade was full of excitement.
Some of the clubs and sports included NHS, Basketball, Theater, Track and Field, FCA, and even the Tabletop Gaming Club. The clubs stocked up on candy this year. We asked student Tim Gale (9) about his thoughts on the parade. “The parade was very big, you know. Honestly, I think they should be more careful where they throw the candy next year because I feel like 20% of it gets wasted.” We also asked him about Homecoming week, “I think it’s a great time to hang out with friends and don’t forget, the bonfire is one of the best events this week.” No truer words have ever been spoken.
Lots of people even came out of their houses to watch the parade! It had a big crowd that was unexpected because of Covid. This is a great event not just for students here at ThunderRidge, but especially the kids who come out of their houses to see the parade and get candy. While we were at it, we asked Tatum Brimhall (9), a Student Government member about Field Day. We were curious how Student Government prepares for such an organized event, “ We had to get a permit, and we had to talk to all the police officers, and reach out to all the clubs and get them to come, and then figure out which school we were going to do it at.” We also asked her what her favorite part of the parade was: “I liked picking up the trash at the end. It was actually a lot of fun.” Hopefully that 20% of candy was cleaned up.
Even though the parade is not one of the most talked about events in the week, lots of preparation goes into it, and it is a highlight for the kids. The parade is a cheerful event and it’s a great way to represent the Grizzlies.
