That’s a wrap everyone! This year ThunderRidge theater put on the play Spy School, by Don Zolidas and it was a huge hit. After 3 months of rehearsal from each and very hard working cast member they were finally able to perform in front of the ThunderRidge school. There were three performances on January 19th, 20th, and 21st with an additional performance for Ranch Views students, interested in theater. It was a massive hit for everyone that came to see it!
This play follows a feminist lead character, Jane Doe (Ella Brosseau), who is taken into the CIA and trained as a “Super-Secret CIA Agent” with the goal to stop an evil Russian spy from abducting an astronaut at the school prom. This action-packed adventure was a ton of fun to watch and even more fun to be a part of. As Blake Narcisian (12) put it, “My favorite part would have to be seeing everyone sign up including all the new faces joining the program”. Student Director, Sophie Goldberg and Director, Kylenne Hurley put tons of effort into this play including intense fight scenes, romantic moments between characters, a choreographed group dance, a breakaway bottle, and more. However, it all paid off on January 19th when students, friends, parents, faculty, even students from Rock Canyon High School, all showed up to support everyone participating.
Agent Blake Moore, played by: Blake Narcissian
Agent Nastaha Sparrow, played by: Gillian Boswell
This play took place in the 1960’s while America was facing huge problems with Russia during the cold war. However, this play also leaned into the misogynistic biases of the 1960’s. In the play Jane Doe is forced to not only focus on being a secret agent but also fighting against systematic sexism in the school system and helping others fight their way to equality as well. Jane wasn't the only feminist thought, Natasha Sparrow, played by Gillian Boswell also helped to fight against sexism even smashing a (fake) bottle against her husband, Agent Blake Moore (Blake Narcissian) after she “got tired of listening to these sexist comments”. However, by the time the curtain closed Doe. had successfully solved not only the astronaut problem, but also solved the dilemma she was facing with sexism in her life and the school.
Overall this was an amazing performance from everyone involved and a huge success. Everyone that viewed the play from afar adored how the actors gave them something to watch, for which their eyes and brains could enjoy. From the pencil fight at the beginning to the plot-twist ending; there was no dull moment in this show. However, if you did happen to miss it - don't worry because in mid-April ThunderRidge will be putting on the hit show Addams Family and some favorite actors from Spy School will be returning as leads in the upcoming show. So, if you want to see a show that's mysterious and spooky, be sure to buy your tickets this April.
